Based on SWAN(Simulating Wave Nearshore),this thesis mainly carries on the follo -wing aspects:The Random Wave Theory was briefly described; the general form of wave spectral energy balance equation was derived. The mathematic model and the numerical difference scheme of SWAN model were analyzed.A visual interface was implemented to simplify the use of the SWAN model by using the Visual Basic programming language.The Spectral types in SWAN Model were extended. The irregular wave breaking was simulated by using the Wen's spectrum in SWAN. The SWAN model was validated against the slope topography breaking case, the semi-infinity breakwater case and the ellipse slope case.The SWAN model was applied to the Bohai Sea under ordinary wind weather condition. The wind waves in Bohai Sea were simulated from time Aug.1,1981 to Aug.12,1981:The wind distribution was calculated by using the statistical wind charts of the Bohai Sea in August in the following 30 years and the marine meteorological observation data provided by National Oceanographic Information Center. The tide flow and sea-level changes were simulated by using the hydrodynamic model. Based on the above calculation, the wave under variation wind and tide conditions in the Bohai Sea was simulated. The Bohai sea wave height distribution charts and the wind velocity-wave height contrast chart were produced. A model of wave hindcasting of shallow water was established in Bohai Sea.The SWAN model was applied to the South China Sea under Mindulle typhoon weather condition. According to the satellite images, the road map of the Mindulle, also the wind speed, wind direction and pressure test data at the typhoon center , the wind distribution of Mindulle was simulated by using the Fujita model. The wave driven by the typhoon was simulated.
