Research On Sino-Thai "Corporate Diplomacy" In The Context Of The "Belt And Road Initiative":The Models And Functions

Abstract/Summary:
The implementation of the "Belt and Road" Initiative(BRI)policy between China and Thailand has a good practical experience in actively promoting "Corporate Diplomacy".In terms of research,the relationship model between China and Thailand in the field of corporate diplomacy remains unclear and unexplored.There is no study to identify any advantages or disadvantages of China’s and Thailand’s corporate diplomacy.Finally,the role of "corporate diplomacy" with regards to the "BRI" between China and Thailand’s government and transnational corporation is still unclear.To this end,this paper takes China and Thailand’s corporate diplomacy as the research object and will answer the following three important questions:(1).What is the model of SinoThai corporate diplomacy under the background of "Belt and Road" Initiative?(2).What is the important role of corporate diplomacy to promote Sino-Thai under the "BRI" cooperation?(3).What are the obstacles and problems exist in the progress of China-Thailand’s corporate diplomacy and the possible solutions to minimize?As such,the research has both theoretical value and practical significance.This research is to clarify the emergence,the related concepts,and the current situation of transnational corporation and "corporate diplomacy",and then build an analytical framework to make necessary investigation and analysis of China and Thailand’s corporate diplomacy under the background of "BRI" initiative cooperation.The theoretical framework is mainly developed from three dimensions.The first dimension is the hypothesis of "actor".Most of the assumptions of the actors in the traditional Western theories of international relations are based on the hypothesis of "economic man",based on microeconomics,which explains the universal legitimacy of the behavior of a country pursuing the maximization of its national interests and thus analogies the similar behavior and logic of other "non-state actors",especially transnational corporations.This paper acknowledges the necessity of this assumption,but at the same time thinks that this only one of hypostasis is not enough.On this basis,this paper puts forward to the hypothesis of "social and cultural man" which can give necessary explanation to the behavior of the actor,so as to enrich the theoretical perspective of the actors’ behavioral explanation,especially to strengthen the understanding and explanation of the behavior of non-state actors.Second dimension is the identity and relationship.Relationism is the international relations theory as Chinese paradigm created by Professor Qin Yaxin,puts forward a new concept for the existence of paradigm with the Chinese characteristics.The theory can help us better understand the country and corporation with mutual benefit and interdependence relationship,and a better understanding the role of "relationship" that building a corporate diplomacy concept.Finally,the "relationship model" dimension as an international relations theory,the corporate diplomacy is carried out by transnational corporations should attach importance of the establishment of good relations and the establishment of a mutually beneficial "relationship model".The model of "triangular relationship" in corporate diplomacy can explain the relationship,role,and existing problems in the co-construction of the "BRI" between China and Thailand.These three dimensions construct a relatively completed theoretical analysis framework.This research selects two typical case studies of the transnational corporation of Thailand with the CP group,and China with the Alibaba group.They are two very important actors in corporate diplomacy between China and Thailand.By placing these two case studies into the above theoretical framework for a comprehensive investigation,it can be found that,under"BRI" cooperation,the relationship model of China and Thailand’s corporate diplomacy there is a mutually constructed,and the corporate diplomacy also can play very important role to promoting China and Thailand "BRI" joint construction.In the final assessment,the characteristics,challenges,and existing problems of China and Thailand’s corporate diplomacy are analyzed from multiple perspectives,the crux of the problem and the direction of future efforts are pointed out.The main points of this research are as follows:Corporate diplomacy can effectively promote the construction of the "Belt and Road" initiative.The formation model of China and Thailand with corporate diplomacy is more focused on the relationship model.And the corporation are not only economic man,but also social and cultural man too,that means they can have a greater effect on government and society,with long-term humanistic care and social responsibility.With regard to the activities of the government and corporation,there is a common concept of behavior coordination and consistency.As a conceptual public good,the"BRI" is not only providing a huge platform for win-win cooperation between Chinese and Thai transnational corporation but also provides a good cooperation platform for chinaThailand corporate diplomacy too.The corporate diplomacy between China and Thailand focuses on coordinating the relations between government with the three relationship,focus on building a Focus on building a model of interdependence and mutual interest,to seek a model of inclusive development in the context of co-existence.In the "BRI" construction,China and Thailand corporate diplomacy can play a huge role.
