Counselors in vocational college(VC counselors),as an important force to carry out the work of moral cultivation,are directly in charge of the ideological and political education as well as daily management of college students.The professional ability of VC counselors directly affects the quality of student training and the completion of the work of moral cultivation in vocational colleges.Therefore,it is of great significance to deeply investigate the real situation of the professional ability of VC counselors and scientifically evaluate the professional ability of VC counselors.This research focuses on the evaluation of professional ability of VC counselors to carry out empirical research,and tries to solve four problems.Firstly,how to develop the evaluation standard of professional ability of VC counselors? Secondly,what is the current professional ability level of counselors in vocational colleges? Thirdly,what are the reasons for the formation of the status quo of VC counselors’ professional ability?The last question is the foothold of the research.What are the countermeasures and suggestions for improving the professional ability of VC counselors?This research firstly summarizes the existing researches on professional ability of VC counselors and related issues,and at the theoretical level,it focuses on the analysis of the job responsibilities and professional ability characteristics of VC counselors.On this basis,the theoretical basis and analytical framework of professional ability evaluation of VC counselors are established.Secondly,Delphi method is used to construct the evaluation framework of professional ability of VC counselors.Then,on the basis of the evaluation framework,the evaluation standard of professional ability of VC counselors is preliminarily developed by literature analysis,in-depth interview method and task analysis method,and finally the evaluation standard of professional ability of VC counselors is formed through project analysis,exploratory and confirmative factor analysis and reliability and validity test.Furthermore,the status quo of VC counselors’ professional ability is investigated through this standard.Through descriptive statistical analysis and difference analysis,this dissertation explores the overall performance and inter-group difference of VC counselors’ professional ability,and explores the influencing factors of VC counselors’ professional ability through correlation analysis,two-factor variance analysis and regression analysis.In addition,through the interview method,the research comprehensively analyzes the causes of the current situation of VC counselors’ professional ability,especially the causes of the problems.Finally,this dissertation puts forward some strategies for improving the professional ability of VC counselors from internal drive and external support as well as other aspects.Through the above process,this research constructed the evaluation framework of VC counselors’ professional ability,which is composed of 3 first-level indicators.They are professional basic ability,professional core ability and professional development ability.The framework is composed of 8 second-level indicators,including ideological and political education ability,daily affairs management ability,academic guidance ability,employment and entrepreneurship guidance ability,mental health education ability,crisis response ability,professional growth ability and work innovation ability,and 31 third-level indicators.According to the developed evaluation standard of professional ability of VC counselors,through empirical research and statistical analysis of data,this research found that the current situation of professional ability of counselors in China is generally stable and good,but some of which are worse and different.This research comprehensively analyzes the status quo and the reasons for the differences of the professional ability of VC counselors from three aspects: national system,organization of vocational colleges and individual counselor.In terms of national system,the overall professional ability is ensured by strengthening top-level design,highlighting the connotation development and setting up scientific research platform.However,the imbalance of China’s economic and social development directly affects the imbalance of the development of higher vocational education,which leads to the difference in the professional ability of the counselors in vocational colleges.At the organizational level of vocational colleges,although they ensure the professional ability development of counselors from the recruitment,training and management assessment,there is still a lack of refinement in these aspects,which leads to differences in the professional ability of counselors.At the level of individual counselors,there is value dislocation in personal attitude that they identify with their profession but do not identify with vocational colleges.In personal emotion,there is ambivalence of both likeness and escape.There is also deviation from the complicated work but still working hard in personal behavior,which is also the reason for the difference of VC counselors’ professional ability.From the aspects of the personal subjective and the external objective,the research mainly analyzes the dilemma existing in the professional basic ability,the professional core ability and the professional development ability.Personal subjective factors mainly include the cognitive deviation of VC counselors to their professional positions.They place too much emphasis on daily affairs management but neglect ideological and political education.What’s more,their concept of the educational scientific research is not strong.The external objective factors mainly lie in that school administrators,teachers and parents consider that the main work of counselors is to properly complete the routine management related to students,and there is no need to do scientific research.Besides,insufficient training for counselors in teaching,scientific research and employment and entrepreneurship is the reason as well.Finally,based on the current situation and existing problems in China,this research proposes to improve the professional ability of VC counselors from various aspects of internal drive and external support.In the aspect of internal drive,countermeasures and suggestions are put forward from paying attention to the individual multidimensional development and construction of professional ability development community of counselors.In terms of external support,countermeasures and suggestions are put forward from three aspects,namely,perfecting the working mechanism and condition guarantee of VC counselors,optimizing the vocational development and training mechanism of VC counselors,and improving the promotion and evaluation system of VC counselors.In general,this research has innovatively explored theoretical research tools,research content and research methods in the process of developing evaluation criteria for counselors’ professional ability,carrying out empirical research and analyzing indepth causes.As for future research,it is important to further expand the scope of investigation and sample size as well as explore profound problems through case study.
