Traditional religious garden is an important part of Chinese gardens.Taking Taishan Feicheng area as a research sample and taking historical source and spatial distribution as the main line, this paper systematically analyzes the development vein, distribution characteristics, individual and overall characteristics of traditional religious garden in Feicheng area.It refines the expression of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism in the traditional religious gardens and the characteristics of temples,Buddhist temples and Taoist temples. In the past, the study of the traditional religious garden focused on the temple garden, lacking the close combination with the origin of thought, and the study of the characteristics of temple,Buddhist temple,Taoist temple and the whole traditional religious garden was insufficient.Based on the origin of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism in traditional religious gardens, this paper puts forward that the research object should include temples,Buddhist temples, gardens affiliated to Taoism, other scenery expressing Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism and the surrounding natural and cultural environment. On this basis, the traditional religious gardens in the scope of the study were investigated and classified comprehensively. Then through the carding of the natural and humanistic foundation,it clarifies the spatial pattern of the landscape settlement and the time sequence of the development of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism.Subsequently, the paper sorted out the origin of the development of traditional religious gardens in Taishan Feicheng area from Pre-Qin to Song,Yuan,Ming and Qing Dynasties. The distribution characteristics of traditional religious gardens in Taishan Feicheng area were summarized. The macroscopic research thought that the temple, the Buddhist temple, the Taoist temple three displayed the element sharing, the place sharing, the function common characteristic. At the micro level,20 traditional religious gardens are selected for design analysis, including Tanmiao,Buddhist Temple,Taoist Temple, and Cave Religious Landscape. The space covers the main mountain bodies in the north of Taishan Feicheng, the minor mountain bodies in the south, and the villages and towns in the plain area.It is concluded that the traditional religious gardens in Feicheng district of Taishan are characterized by wide application of stone, strong function, and obvious symbolic significance. It is pointed out that Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism are abstract, and the elements of traditional religious garden design are concrete. Therefore, the difficulty lies in how to express abstract ideas by concrete design. With the help of Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism’s "Qi","Jingjing" and "Fengshui",this paper analyzes how the ancients perceived the concrete world with abstract concepts.Based on this framework, the macro and micro research results are sorted out,and how to distinguish the design of temples,Buddhist temples and Taoist temples is discussed. This paper summarizes the systematic and diversified characteristics of the traditional religious gardens in expressing Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism, and puts forward that "Respect","Jing" and "Jing" can represent the ideological characteristics of Tanmiao,Buddhist Temple and Taoist Temple respectively. Finally, taking Taishan Feicheng as an example, this paper discusses the protection and development of traditional religious gardens, and puts forward some suggestions from macro and micro perspectives.Compared with urban and rural public space, the traditional religious garden has the advantage of expressing spirit and culture. At the macro level,we should protect the spatial structure of traditional religious gardens, and at the micro level,we should protect the sensory experience of temples,Buddhist temples and Taoist temples.
