Product innovation design is of great significance to the deep implementation of innovation-driven development strategy in China,and its main purpose is to produce new and competitive conceptual solutions that meet the needs of users during the conceptual design stage.The generation of these solutions is an iterative process from abstract to concrete,involving the designer’s complex cognitive activities and thinking processes such as perception,reasoning and thinking.It can be considered that designers are the main body of innovative design activities,and their cognitive ability and creative thinking activities are the basis of realizing product innovation.With the rapid rise of Internet economy and the emergence of disruptive technologies,the complexity and challenge of product innovation design are increasing day by day.Therefore,it is urgent to explore the factors and mechanisms that influence designers’ creative thinking in the process of design through more scientific methods and technologies,and to understand the cognitive activity rules of creative scheme in the conceptual design stage in essence.The purpose is to provide necessary and valuable theoretical support for the development of systematic models,methods and tools that are more consistent with the cognitive rules of designers to support product innovative design,so as to effectively guide and assist the realization of product innovative design.Aiming at the conceptual design stage in the process of product innovation design,which can best condense the creativity and wisdom of designers,the project was conducted by integrating the multidisciplinary methods of innovative design theory,information theory,cognitive psychology,cognitive neuroscience and computer theory,from the perspective of the subject of product innovation design--designer,explored and studied the internal cognitive process,external design activities and design information resources,as well as their relationship and evolution mechanism when designers produce creative design solutions,and a product conceptual design process model based on the cognitive mechanism was constructed.This paper made a deep study on the cognitive activities of designers with different degrees of design fixation,which is the cognitive bias that hinders designers’ creative thinking.Through a thinkaloud experiment,the team cognitive activities,information transfer and the dynamic collaborative design processes in user-designer collaborative design were explored.Besides,based on analyzing the limitations of the inherent cognitive thinking mode of knowledge for solving creative problems,a method of design knowledge expression and organization based on the cognitive mechanism was proposed.Finally,based on the above theoretical conclusions and the proposed methods,a cognitive computeraided conceptual design system was developed.The main contents of the paper are listed as follows:(1)The background and significance of product innovation and conceptual design research,the connotation and research methods of cognition-based design research were discussed.Then the thesis expounded the research status of conceptual design at home and abroad from three aspects: the influence of design fixation on designers’ creative thinking,the application of design knowledge and computer-aided innovation tools.Then the limitations of current research were analyzed and concluded.And finally,the framework and research content of the thesis were formulated.(2)Cognitive process model of product conceptual design was constructed.Conceptual design was discussed from the perspective of cognitive science designers inside the mind of design information in the process of design for the exterior of the machining process,constantly iterative activities in the process of the design and continuous interaction between internal and external design information resource evolution,build the product innovation design process model based on the cognitive mechanism.The construction of the model provided theoretical basis and support for the follow-up research and method implementation.(3)The influences of design fixation on a designer’s cognitive activities were deeply explored.In the present study,based on the cognitive process model,the author thought that the design fixation effect observed in creative tasks may be due to the failure to suppress common knowledge based on common knowledge spontaneous activation and explored this argument from the perspective of cognitive neuroscience.By conducting EEG experiments on an engineering design task,the EEG data of participants with different degrees of design fixation were recorded and statistically analyzed to explore the role of inhibition control in creative idea generation and verify whether different degrees of design fixation are accompanied by different cognitive activities.(4)The cognitive pattern of design team in the process of conceptual design was studied.In view of the limitations of existing research on design cognition,which focuses on the exploration of cognitive patterns such as the implementation process and strategy of individual designer’s cognitive activities,while the research on the cognitive patterns and dynamic design process of design team has not been in-depth,a protocol experiment was carried out.,and the combination of situated functionbehavior-structure co-design model and Linkography was used to encode the protocol data.The cognitive activities,information transfer and dynamic collaborative design process of user and designer were deeply explored.(5)A knowledge expression and organization method of product innovation design based on cognitive mechanism was proposed.Existing design knowledge expression and organization methods neglect the rules of cognitive activities of designers when applying design knowledge,and the expression and organization form of knowledge was single,the flexibility was poor.Given these limitations,combined with the typical characteristics of the conceptual design processes and the demands for Kansei image knowledge in the conceptual design process,a method of design knowledge expression and organization is proposed,which comprehensively considers the designer’s cognitive activity law,design knowledge and computer requirements in conceptual design process.On this basis,a design knowledge base was constructed to support product innovative design,and the application of knowledge base was illustrated and verified by an example of the innovative design of the micro-lubrication nozzle.(6)A cognitive-based computer aided product innovation design tool was developed.Based on above cognitive-based results,a computer aided product innovation design tool based on the cognitive mechanism was developed by integrating design theory,cognitive science and computer technology to support designers to produce innovative design solutions that meet users’ needs.The software architecture and the overall running process of the system are introduced and analyzed,and the interface of the application problem analysis,design scheme generation and design scheme evaluation modules were displayed.
