Industrialization, while creating material wealth, also brings ecological challenges. The extensive form of high resource consumption and high capital investment leads to an imbalance between resource carrying capacity and economic development.Against the backdrop of rapid economic growth shifting towards high-quality development, green economy has become an inevitable direction for economic development.Urban agglomerations are the core growth poles of national economic development, and their green economic competitiveness has become an important component of enhancing national green economic competitiveness. As a cluster economy with economic vitality and competitiveness, urban agglomerations have advantages in integrating resources and markets, but also face multiple pressures from resources, energy, and natural environment.Adhering to the green and low-carbon concept and establishing a green economic urban agglomeration that integrates production, life, and ecology has become an urgent task.In 2020,China proposed the development goals of "carbon peak" and "carbon neutrality",and the 14 th Five Year Plan further clarified the "dual carbon" target plan to promote the comprehensive green transformation of the social economy. The Twentieth National Congress proposed to develop green and low-carbon industries, promote the green,low-carbon and high-quality development of urban agglomeration, and promote the construction of Chinese path to modernization. The development of urban agglomerations has entered a stage of comprehensive improvement, and low-carbon,ecological,and intensive models have become inevitable requirements for promoting sustainable development of urban agglomerations. The research on the competitiveness of green economy in urban agglomerations has important theoretical and practical significance. This article combines the background of "dual carbon" and the characteristics of high-quality development in the era,and follows the systematic research framework of "theoretical traceability and qualitative analysis-theoretical analysis and evaluation system construction of green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations-spatiotemporal analysis and evaluation of green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations-dynamic evolution and network structure of green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations-influencing factors and mechanisms of green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations-optimization and improvement paths of green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations".From the perspectives of the overall and individual of urban agglomerations, the whole system and subsystems of evaluation systems,inter-and intra cluster cities, different types of urban agglomerations and cities, heterogeneity analysis is conducted to systematically study and explore the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations in eastern coastal China.Compared with existing research, the marginal contribution of this article mainly includes the following aspects:Firstly,a green economy competitiveness evaluation system for the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China has been established, and theoretical research has been extended and enriched. The connotation of green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations was defined, and the mechanism of the evaluation system for green economic competitiveness in urban agglomerations was demonstrated based on the economic social ecological symbiosis model. The analysis dimensions of economic base, industrial structure, green innovation, quality of life,urban-rural coordination, environmental status, environmental pressure and environmental response were used as the "base layer",economic competitiveness, social competitiveness, and ecological competitiveness were used as the "subsystem layer",and the improvement of green economic competitiveness in eastern coastal urban agglomerations in China was used as the "target layer".The E-SE evaluation system for green economic competitiveness in eastern coastal urban agglomerations in China was established, and a systematic evaluation index system was established.Secondly, the multidimensional evaluation method was used to clarify the overall characteristics of the green economic competitiveness of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China, and the research scale was deepened and expanded.Evaluate the spatiotemporal characteristics of green economic competitiveness in the eastern coastal urban agglomeration of China using entropy method and Arc GIS natural breakpoint analysis method. And use Dagum Gini coefficient,Kernel kernel density analysis,Moran’s I spatial autocorrelation σ Convergence β Multiple econometric methods such as absolute convergence and conditional convergence,Markov chain, and social network analysis were used to evaluate the green economic competitiveness of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China.A systematic analysis was conducted on its regional differences and sources, dynamic evolution characteristics, convergence characteristics, transfer law characteristics, and social network characteristics.Thirdly,a path for enhancing the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations along the eastern coast of China has been constructed, forming a reference paradigm for enhancing the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations.Starting from the impact of economic social ecological system correlation, this paper analyzes the theoretical mechanism of influencing factors, and analyzes the heterogeneity, spatial spillover, factor interaction and other characteristics of influencing factors.Based on this, combined with the background of "dual carbon" and the characteristics of high-quality development era and the actual situation of the research area, policy suggestions and specific optimization paths for the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations in eastern coastal China are proposed, providing practical reference for the research of green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations and path reference for the improvement of green economic competitiveness in multiple fields.By constructing and analyzing the evaluation system in the context of a new era,we aim to make up for the shortcomings of current research, extend the theoretical research boundaries of green economic competitiveness, and expand the depth and breadth of research through multidimensional analysis and argumentation.Based on empirical judgment of influencing factors,we propose optimization paths to provide policy basis for improving the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations. The main research conclusions of this article are as follows:Firstly, establish an E-S-E evaluation system for the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations, and use the entropy method and Arc GIS natural breakpoint method to comprehensively measure the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations along the eastern coast of China. The results indicate that during the research period, the overall and subsystem competitiveness of green economy in the eastern coastal urban agglomeration of China has been increasing year by year and exhibits regional heterogeneity. The Pearl River Delta urban agglomeration is in a leading position in terms of overall competitiveness of green economy,as well as economic and social subsystem competitiveness. The ecological competitiveness of the Shandong Peninsula urban agglomeration shows a fluctuating development advantage, showing phased characteristics. The Beijing Tianjin Hebei urban agglomeration is relatively lagging behind in terms of overall green economy, social and ecological subsystem competitiveness due to factors such as regional synergy.National level urban agglomerations are superior to regional level urban agglomerations in overall, economic, and social competitiveness, while their ecological competitiveness is weaker than that of regional level urban agglomerations.Large cities and cities of varying scales exhibit similar patterns and characteristics.Non resource-based cities have better overall, economic, and social competitiveness than resource-based cities, and their ecological competitiveness has not shown significant advantages. The eastern coastal urban agglomerations in China exhibit a spatial evolution pattern of "center periphery" to varying degrees, with central cities taking a clear lead in the urban agglomerations. The overall spatial evolution characteristics within the urban agglomerations are "central eastern western".Secondly, the Dagum Gini coefficient is used to analyze the differences and sources of green economic competitiveness in the eastern coastal urban agglomeration of China. The results indicate that there is regional imbalance in the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations along the eastern coast of China. As green and low-carbon transformation and development enter the fast lane, the regional imbalance in the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations is gradually narrowing.Analysis of regional differences reveals that the imbalance in development between urban agglomerations is an important factor affecting the competitiveness of green economy in urban agglomerations.Using Kernel kernel density to analyze the dynamic evolution characteristics, the results show that the kernel density curve shows an overall right shift trend, and the overall green economic competitiveness of China’s eastern coastal urban agglomeration is constantly improving. The curves are all trailing to the right, with a wider extensibility and a phenomenon of "better in the middle",showing a certain degree of multipolarity.Thirdly, convergence analysis shows that the overall green economic competitiveness of China’s eastern coastal urban clusters and each urban cluster has convergence characteristics, and there is a catching up between urban clusters, which promotes the overall development of green economic competitiveness of different urban clusters and China’s eastern coastal urban clusters to a higher level.Moran’s I Global and local spatial autocorrelation analysis shows that the spatial agglomeration characteristics of green economy competitiveness in the eastern coastal urban agglomeration of China are significant, with most cities located in the first and third quadrants, showing "high high" or "low low" agglomeration characteristics, indicating that the green economy competitiveness of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration of China has a positive correlation in space as a whole, and there is imbalance between cities.Fourthly, the Markov chain was used to analyze the transfer characteristics of the green economic competitiveness of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China. The results showed that the probability values on the diagonal of the transfer probability matrix were greater than those on the non diagonal, and the green economic competitiveness of the urban agglomeration exhibited a phenomenon of "club convergence".The phenomenon of a transition from low level to high level and a decline from high level to low level coexist. The probability of transitioning from low-level to high-level is much higher than the probability of transitioning from high-level to low-level,but the overall trend is upward, and there is no obvious extreme difference.Social network analysis shows that the network relationship of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China is more closely related, presenting a complex network structure with multiple lines and directions. The spatial correlation and spillover effects are obvious, and most of the spatial correlation is still borne by the core cities of each urban agglomeration.Fifthly, from the perspective of the economic social ecological system correlation,a theoretical analysis was conducted on the impact mechanism of the influencing factors. The economic social ecological influencing factors were mapped to specific influencing factors such as population agglomeration, transportation conditions, industrial structure, innovation ability, level of opening up to the outside world, level of informatization, ecological environment, and government intervention.A system of influencing factors for the green economic competitiveness of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China was constructed, and the analysis showed that the influencing factors exhibited heterogeneity and spatial spillover characteristics. The dual factor detection of the spatial geographic detector found that the impact of each influencing factor on the green economic competitiveness of the eastern coastal urban agglomeration in China is not independent, and the interaction of the influencing factors shows stronger explanatory power, showing mutual or non-linear enhancement.Using the QAP analysis method,an empirical analysis was conducted on the internal influencing factors of eight dimensions set from three subsystems: economic foundation, industrial structure, green innovation, quality of life,urban-rural coordination, environmental status, environmental pressure, and environmental response. The results showed that differences in each dimension would lead to the formation of differences in the overall green economic competitiveness of China’s eastern coastal urban agglomeration and each urban agglomeration.Any change in the difference in any dimension would lead to changes in the green economic competitiveness of urban agglomerations. This further demonstrates the theoretical analysis logic of the evaluation system for green economic competitiveness of China’s eastern coastal urban agglomeration and the rationality of the selection of each analysis dimension in this article.Based on the above conclusions, this article proposes the following policy recommendations:Firstly, strengthen innovation drive, establish innovation networks, and leverage the territorial driving and spatial spillover effects of innovation;Secondly;Continuously optimizing the industrial structure and promoting it to become more advanced and rational;Thirdly, improve the ecological environment protection system and promote the modernization of ecological environment construction;Fourth, adhere to high-level opening up to the outside world and achieve upgrading through openness and sharing;Fifthly, strengthen regional diversified collaboration and promote the integration and upgrading of urban agglomerations.
