In the new era of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation,technological innovation presents a trend of complexity,integration,and intelligence,production cycle is significantly shortened,and cooperative innovation and technology integration involving multiple entities have become an important way to achieve technological breakthroughs.On the one hand,innovative entities such as enterprises,universities and scientific research institutions gradually form stable network relationships through cooperation and alliances;on the other hand,the crossintegration between different technologies makes the knowledge network more dense and complex.At the same time,they bring some new questions: how can companies gain access to technology and resources through the integration of collaboration networks and knowledge networks to improve innovation performance? How to rationally allocate and utilize network resources to promote innovation performance? Under the institutional background of the duality of institutional structure,regional customs,and values in China,how can enterprises better manage the relationship between network embeddedness and innovation performance? The profound study of these series issues has important theoretical and practically significant.This study will conduct a series of theoretical discussions and empirical studies on the mechanisms and paths of network embeddedness impact on innovation performance.Firstly,this study decouples the dual network based on the resource-based view and the knowledge-based view.From the perspective of “quality” and “quantity”,the network embeddedness is divided into structural embeddedness and relational embeddedness.In the context of ambidextrous innovation,an empirical study on the direct impact of network embeddedness on innovation performance is conducted by utilizing the electronic information industry patent licensing data between 2000 and 2016..The result shows that the structural embeddedness of the collaboration network has a negative impact on the innovation performance,and the relational embeddedness of the collaboration network can improve the innovation performance;there is an inverted U-type relationship between the knowledge network structure embeddedness and innovation performance,and the knowledge network relational embeddedness has no significant impact on innovation performance.Under different ambidextrous innovation strategies,the effect of collaboration network and knowledge network embeddedness on innovation performance are different.Secondly,based on the institutional environment background,the mechanism of network embeddedness on exploration and exploitative innovation performance is investigated.We carry out an empirical research on the electronic information industry patent authorization and other data from 2000 to 2016.The results show that the collaboration network structural embeddedness has an inverted-U-shaped impact on exploration innovation performance and it also has a restraining effect on exploitation innovation performance.At the same time,the institutional environment strengthens the inverted U-shaped relationship between collaboration network structural embeddedness and exploration innovation performance and weakens the inhibition effect on exploitation innovation performance.Besides,the knowledge network structural embeddedness has an inverted U-shaped effect on both exploration and exploitation innovation performance.The institutional environment also strengthens the inverted Ushaped relationship of knowledge network to exploration and exploitation innovation performance.Third,in the context of the formal and informal institutional environment,the theoretical relationship model of technology diversification and ambidextrous innovation performance is constructed.Using the financial and patent data of listed companies,marketization process data,and WVS survey data,the empirical study was carried.The result shows that technology diversification has a significant positive impact on exploration innovation performance,and there is an inverted-U-type relationship with exploitation innovation performance.The formal institutional environment enhances the positive effect of technological diversification on exploration innovation performance.While the informal system enhances the inverted-U-type relationship between technology diversification and exploitation innovation performance.The research results lay a foundation for the research of the mediation path of "network embeddedness-technology diversification-innovation performance".Finally,based on the resource dependence theory,the mediation path model of “network embedding ? technology --diversification ? innovation performance” is constructed.Meanwhile,the moderation effect of property rights is analyzed.An empirical investigation is conducted using the financial data and patent data of listed companies from 2007 to 2016.The result shows that there is an inverted U-type relationship between relational embeddedness and innovation performance.Structural embeddedness has a significant positive impact on innovation performance;relational embeddedness has an inverted U-shaped effect on technology diversification,and structural embeddedness has a positive impact on technical diversification.Technology diversification has a mediating role between relational embeddedness and innovation performance,and also mediates the positive impact of structural embeddedness on innovation performance.Compared with non-state-owned enterprises,the inverted Utype relationship between state-owned enterprises' relational embeddedness and innovation performance is weaker,and structural embeddedness has a stronger positive impact on innovation performance.This study takes the impact of network embeddedness on innovation performance as the starting point,introduces variables such as ambidextrous innovation,institutional environment,and technological diversification,and deeply analyzes the influence mechanism and mediation path of network embeddedness on innovation performance.Based on the resource-based view and the knowledge-based view,the dual network is decoupled.The influence of multiple embeddedness of collaboration network and knowledge network on innovation performance is discussed,which enriches the theoretical basis and application scope of network embeddedness.In the Chinese context,the introduction of ambidextrous innovation and institutional environment,trying to explain the "weak relationship hypothesis" and "strong relationship hypothesis" of network embeddedness,deepen the research on the impact of network embeddedness on innovation performance.The mediation path model of “network embedding-technology diversification-innovation performance” was constructed,and expanded the research on the mediation path of network embeddedness and innovation performance.This study provides an important theoretical basis and decision-making reference for accelerating the construction of innovative countries and in-depth implementation of innovationdriven development strategies.It also generates important theoretical implications for enterprises in utilizing collaboration networks and knowledge networks to enhance innovation performance.
