A Study On The Problem Of Cognitive Integration

The progress of modern information technology has promoted the development of cognitive science for nearly 70 years.Starting from the earliest research of cognitive psychology and artificial intelligence,it includes philosophy,linguistics,anthropology and neuroscience.Now,on the basis of integration,there are new interdisciplinary subjects,such as neurolinguistics,neuropsychology,psycholinguistics,anthropological linguistics,Psychophilosophy,cognitive anthropology.It has even promoted the further development of traditional disciplines such as education,economics,politics and management.The vigorous development of interdisciplinary,the issue of the relationship between the mind and the body has been ushered in and pushed it to a new field of view again,which has given birth to the fierce discussion and debate on mind and cognitive boundary among contemporary cognitive scientists.During this period,the limitations of internalist cognitive views have become increasingly prominent,and researchers gradually shift their attention to the embodied and situated aspects of cognition.The interaction between cognitive subject & human culture,technology & social environment have become the main emphasis,which not only promoted the vigorous development of 4E cognition,but also led to a lot of expansion and discussion of cognitive framework designs and its problems,even some theorists have begun to interpret the framework of“predictive processing”,hoping to establish a paradigm of predictive processing based on situated cognition and extended cognition.It can be seen that the thought of “integration” has gradually become a trend,and the boundary between mind and cognition has become more and more blurred,which has resulted in the formation of new epistemology and methodology.However,the following new problems became clear that the dilemma of methodology is particularly prominent and difficult: how to integrate? What problems need to be solved in integration? What kind of model should be constructed? To what extent can we reconcile with the traditional cognitive concepts? These problems have become the focus of many debates and discussions.Therefore,on the basis of combing and analyzing the related research work of cognitive integration both here and abroad,this paper tries to put forward a possible scheme of cognitive integration by taking the cultural approach as the direction and combining with the reasonable components of the latest theoretical framework of predictive processing.Except the introduction and conclusion,the paper is divided into five chapters.Among them,the introduction introduces the background and significance of the topic,overseas and domestic research status,research content and main ideas,as well as innovation and deficiencies of the research on cognitive integration.Chapter one,by exploring the philosophical and scientific thoughts hidden in different disciplines and backgrounds,this part summarizes and analyzes the hidden problems in the background of cognitive integration,and discusses the relationship between mind and body,the boundary of consciousness,4E cognition and mindshaping,and highlights the close interwoven relationship between different theoretical studies,and emphasizes the role of different research approaches in deepening and improving the theme of cognitive integration.The second chapter mainly from the approach of distributed cognition,and integrates distributed cognition,4E cognition and situated cognition based on the Hutchins',Tollefsen' and Heersmink' points of views.It puts forward a distributed cognitive approach which takes distributed cognition as the main axis,and the approach of distributed cognition to cognitive integration covering 4E cognition and situational cognition,and then understands the concept of cognition.It is helpful for us to understand the concept of cognition,the similarities and differences among distributed cognition,4E cognition and situated cognition,the complexity of mind and the irregularity of situation.Chapter three focuses on the relationship and difference of Clark &Chalmers' parity principle,the extended body hypothesis,Goldstone's reverse parity principle,and Menary's ecological interpretation of cognition,analyzes the possibility of the existence of “surrounding space” and the new viewpoint of reverse angle,and emphasizes the recent tendency from the extended cognition to the inner minds.Chapter four tries to propose a cultural approach,which elaborates the possibility of cultural approach through Tomasello's view of culture and thinking,Sterelny's niche construction framework,Gallagher's cultural context,Rietveld's the skilled intentionality framework and Malafouris' material engagement theory,highlighting the encultural trend and ecological characteristics in cognitive integration,and trying to put forward the effect of cultural approach on cognition.Finally,highlighting the feasibility of cultural approach.Chapter five summarizes the tendency of cognitive integration prediction processing,leads to the harmony between the concept of the prediction error minimization and the tighten 4E,and puts forward the concern of cognitive integration on the representation,and the integrated possibility of the prediction error minimization and cultural approach.In this way,we can make a new thinking on the problem of cognitive integration,and finds a new main line in various complex theories.The conclusion summarizes the theoretical dilemma and research upsurge of cognitive integration in the development process from the origin of mind and cognition.With the development of neuroscience,“cognition”integrates the brain-body-environment process of interactive organization,or dynamic construction process with situationality.The evolutionary analysis based on 4E cognition plays an important role in the correctly understand the cognition,cognitive boundaries and basic mechanisms of cognition.After studying the latest integration view of predictive processing,this paper proposes that it is feasible to integrate the non-functional enculturation and predictive processing in theory,and it may provide a reference for further integration.
