The Research On Application Of Cognitive Map

The informatization tidal wave has influenced the globe since the 20th century. The informatization wave has influenced the globe since the 1960s. Information is very important in our daily work and lives. The development of the "3S" technology (CIS, RS, GPS), leads cartography to step in a multi- information age . Based on cartography, GIS is explored and applied in many fields. With the emergence of the "digital earth", it is necessary and feasible to construct a huge digitized and visualized information system, on a basis of spatial congnition and visualization. It is difficult to transform the spatial information in human brain into the on that can be recognized by computer. Therefore, the writer studies cognitive map , sets up cognitive models cognitive , and then realizes computer visualization. The paper falls into four parts:The first part analyses trends, key problems of cartography and GIS, and the influence new technology exerting on cartography and its demands of cognition science. It points out that spatial cognition of geographic nvironment is one of principal aspects prompting the development of GIS. It also generalizes the research of cognitive map.The second part gives a comprehensive account of disciplines related to cognitive map, its history, latest development and explicates its notion, connotation, and distinguishes map and cognitive map. This paper discusses the status and significance in research of cognitive map in cartography. Cognitive map plays a very important role in digital mapping and city image, the spatial analysis of complex geographic problems and the modeling and digitizing of geographic spatial image. It is one of the key factors that guarantee the reconciliation of cognition and natural language of geographic information and develop intelligent GIS. The GIS spatial model based on cognition can recover spatial information to the fullest is the primary applied filed of cognitive map.The third part, with the research of the cognitive map of scenic spotand city image as reference, explains the general principles of application of cognitive map. This paper investigates such problems as city image through the cognitive map and questionnaires, which makes up the defect in the single analysis of cognitive map.The fourth part is the actual application of cognitive map, i.e., the spatial cognition of Xi'an tourism image. Four conclusions are drawn:1. The shaping feature of cognitive map is the essence of contents, the generalization of qualitative characteristics, the intent of quantitative characteristics, and the description of shape features.2.The main spatial factors influencing the tourism image in Xi'an are roads, landmarks and regions.3. The spatial features of the tourism image in Xi' an are the connection of roads, distinctness of typical geographic objects and regional enclosure.4. The spatial cognitive model of the tourism image in Xi'an is established. A Cognitive model, with passages, elements and regions as its core, is a processed cognitive map.The author of this paper tries to make the following proposals:1. It explicates the relationship between cognitive map and map, pointing out that the application of cognitive map is an extension of map.2. The application of research methods of cognitive map to tourism image is an innovation in the application of cognitive map.3. The processing system of the cognitive map to cognitive model is established. And the cognitive model is very beneficial to the description from thought to cognitive map.
