Intra-team management communication: An exploratory qualitative study of agile information systems effect on continuous innovation

Agile information systems used as forms of management communication to effect continuous innovation is essential to for-profit business survival. The unceasing pace of technology advancement has amplified the absolute necessity for effectual management communication, rapid and accurate information exchange, and the need to encourage continuous innovation within organizations. The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences and perceptions of management team members in U.S. food-processing firms related to employment of agile information systems used to create constant improvement. An exploratory prescriptive research methodology was used to conduct nine guided semi-structured open-ended interviews of purposefully selected management team members working in segments of the food-processing industry to examine how communication influences firm performance. The study was designed to investigate the interrelation of management communication, agile information systems, and continuous innovation and how these correlate to effect innovation in food-processing organizations. The study concluded regulatory factors influenced management communication, setting construct shaped agile information systems process selection, and agile information systems as a form of management communication effected continuous innovation outcome. The fundamental message derived from the interviewed production supervisors was the absolute necessity in using agile information systems processes to effect continuous innovation goals.
