Abstract/Summary:
Previous research works showed that telemedicine provides a lot of benefits including reduced costs and extending the reach of existing medical expertise. One might then wonder why telemedicine is not more widely embraced and in use in all medical facilities despite the cry for relief from the ever increasing medical cost and the critical shortage of qualified and licensed medical expertise.;This research employs qualitative technique through use of questionnaires and direct interviews with medical professionals to learn about the technological factors impacting the acceptance of telemedicine. Participants were pulled from the Washington, DC. Metro area and covered a wide range of specialty from the following professions: Nurse Practitioner, Pharmacist, Physician, Physician Assistant, Medical Technologist, Registered Nurse, Therapist and Medical Researcher.;The top two factors identified are Cost and Privacy. Accuracy and Usability were also identified as significant factors.;Suggestions for increasing the acceptance of telemedicine are increased end user education, increasing access to reliable technology, governmental support and the push for standard to ensure interoperability.
