Abstract/Summary:
A new virtual organization of books in a library, based upon user-supplied information was created in this study. This organization develops links between books based on their occurring during a single search by a user of the library. The test results show that this new organization is different from conventional catalogs, as the new relations between books can not be generated in any way by a catalog. The test results also show that the relations created by users can be used as a supplement to conventional catalogs. The creation of links is part of users' information behavior, and subject to the influence of the context of information seeking. Three variables are identified and proved to have an impact on the characters of links. These variables are: domain of the problem, stage of the problem and intended use of the information.
