Abstract/Summary:
The study investigated the economic effect of the conversion from analog to digital transmission at television stations across the United States. This effect was studied based on Oliver's model of how organizations respond to outside pressures or influences.; This model was applied to U.S. television stations to assess their response to digital television conversion. It was hypothesized that different groups of stations (commercial, public, religious and low-power) would react in different ways to the challenge of digital implementation.; Based on the findings, there was a close relationship in several areas between the Oliver model and television station response. Most notably, the predictive model was appropriate for religious and low-power stations. Those areas where the model did not fit as well were best explained by Greve's theory of mimetic adoption.
