Abstract/Summary:
The traditional systems engineering (TSE) technical development process model (TDPM) constituent system (CS) suitability conjecture is the unproven belief within the system engineering (SE) and system of systems (SoS) communities that TSE TDPMs are suitable in prescribing the technical development effort to engineer a CS for its inaugural membership into a SoS.;The resolution of the TSE TDPM CS suitability conjecture provides guidance for both SoS and CS developers by endorsing or refuting the ability of the TSE TDPMs to function in a new technical development environment (TDE).;This study examines four areas of the TSE TDPM CS suitability conjecture. The first area to be examined is the character of the TSE TDPMs. The examination identifies distinguishable features and traits of the TSE TDPMs. The second area to be examined is the TDE that the TSE TDPM CS development effort must endure. The examination identifies the CS requisites for prescribing the technical development effort. The third area to be examined is the ability of the TSE TDPM to function in the CS TDE. The character of the candidate TSE TDPMs are evaluated in comparison to the CS TDE requisites. The results are analyzed to identify and then separately confirm the discrepancies within the TSE TDPMs. The fourth area to be examined is the research developed solutions to the confirmed discrepancies. Solutions to resolve each confirmed discrepancy are developed, evaluated and separately confirmed.;The results of the four areas will provide sufficient evidence of proof to endorse or refute the TSE TDPM CS suitability conjecture.
