A Study On Compilation Of China's Contemporary Military Encyclopedia

The compilation of military encyclopedia is a creative spiritual work with“compilation”as the core,and it is a professional practice in social science and cultural activities.The compilation of China's contemporary military encyclopedia is not only an important component of military scientific research,but also an important field of military lexicography.The practice of compilation started in the 1980s.It is a pioneering work in both the history of the development of Chinese military science and the history of lexicography.A series of the great volumes of military encyclopedia and thesaurus,represented by the China's Encyclopedia:Military Affairs(1^st editions)and China's Military Encyclopedia(1^stand 2^nd editions),systematically introduce military knowledge at all times and at home and abroad,comprehensively sum up military theory and military practice,and establish a military encyclopedia knowledge system with Chinese characteristics.They are outstanding achievements in the modernization of national defense and armed forces,and reflect the level of the contemporary military science development in China.They have played an important role in disseminating military knowledge,promoting the development of military science,and serving the modernization of national defense and armed forces.Comparing to the practice of compilation,though there have been some important theories on military encyclopedia compilation,relevant researches are insufficient,and not systematic,especially in the past decade.This paper uses the world military encyclopedia compilation genealogy since modern times as a framework,and studies and considers China's contemporary military encyclopedia under this framework.Along the main line of the history of compiling China's contemporary military encyclopedia,this paper summarizes the experience of compiling military encyclopedia,through reviewing the organization,staff,and achievement of the compilation in the different historical periods.This paper also researches the theories and methodology of compiling military encyclopedia,by investigating the theoretical foundation and basis of compiling military encyclopedia,the process of building the order of military knowledge,and the operation of the compiling system and project.Through discussing the political correctness and objectivity of compilation,as well as the role of literature review in compilation,this paper studies the rules of compiling military encyclopedia.By the case analyses of China's three contemporary military encyclopedias,this paper studies the characteristics and innovation of compiling military encyclopedia,starting from analyzing the content,practice and modernization of compilation.This paper has conducted systematical research to China's contemporary military encyclopedia,by adopting the theories and professional knowledge of the military science,lexicography,historical science,editing and publishing science.From“Discipline theory”,this paper investigates the knowledge classification of the military encyclopedia,and the relation with the establishment and development of the military subject.From the perspective of cultural construction,this paper examines the important role of the compilation system in establishing a new military knowledge order,and realizing the standardization and normalization of military knowledge.From the mechanism of the lexicography framework,this paper studies the interrelated and interactional process between the subjects of compiling the military encyclopedia and the objects.This paper makes a systematic study on the compilation history of China's contemporary military encyclopedia for the first time.By combing the original documents,archives and meeting minutes about compiling military encyclopedia from 1980 to 2016,and interviewing some famous experts who were directly involved in the compilation and some witnesses of important events,this paper clarifies the important events,nodes and development course in the compilation.This paper studies the formation and development of the compilation system and mechanism for China's contemporary military encyclopedia,compares with the compilation of other encyclopedias both home and abroad,and abstracts the characteristics,function,and contribution of the compilation system and mechanism.This paper systemically studies the establishment and development of the military subject of the compilation of the military encyclopedia.It thinks that the activity of compilation lays the foundation for the establishment and development of relevant military subject,promoting and deepening the theoretical research of related fields.For the first time,this paper focuses on the process of dealing with and solving some major historical problems in the compilation.Through literature review,archival sorting out,interview records and others,this paper focuses on the principles and standards for the compilation of military history,war history and military figures of the Chinese People's Liberation Army,as well as the formation of expression and evaluation.For example,the compilation of the"secret telegram"of the Long March,the expression of the achievements of the War of Resistance against Japan,and the process of determining the 36 military strategists of the People's Liberation Army.It in a concentrated form reflects the mutual promotion and unity between the compilation and scientific research.This paper expands the space of encyclopedia research,enriches relevant research results,and provides ideas and reference for follow-up researches.
