Since the beginning of the new century, mobile communication technology has spread all over the world at a speed that surpasses any previous communication technology. In tandem with technology diffusion, there are social, economic, politicand cultural changes based on network society. The Internet and mobile media have greatly enriched the way of human information communication and expanded the scope of human communication.Based on this, human social networks also exhibit new features. In this study,Yao people from Heba Village,Majiang County,Guizhou Province were selected to be the research objects, and the participants' observations,in-depth interviews, and grounded theories were used to study the ethnic minorities'traditional culture and society from the perspective of the social network theory. Here the traditional culture, the economic changes and the history of media development of ethic minority have been empirically examined, and the using and impact of the mobile media of villagers have been investigated to answer the following questions:Firstly, how mobile media enters the life of minority villagers, and how minority villagers use mobile media with the arrival of the mobile Internet era?Secondly, how mobile media expands and maintains social networks?Social networks can play a role in the acquisition of interpersonal communication and social capital. Then,What is the relationship between mobile media, individuals using mobile media and social networks?Thirdly, how does the new information and communication tools change and construct the interpersonal communication and social networks in these distinctively cultural areas, and how does it affect their way of social capital acquisition and composition? What have their lives and interpersonal relationships changed to be?Does the traditional network of closed social relations have new features and characteristic in the era of mobile media?Fourthly,in the vital period of China's transformation and development in society and economy, the rural minority labor force has become a large portion of working force off homeland, then what will the impact of the mobility process be on social capital? What are the changes in their strong ties and weak ties? What is the significance of social networks established by minority villagers through mobile media for society and individuals?Fifthly, how does the poverty factors affect the using of mobile media and the development of social networks in the poverty-stricken areas of ethnic minorities in the southwest?Based on the study of these issues, this thesis summarizes the using and impact of mobile media for minority villagers from three dimensions of social networks. The first dimension is the value of mobile media for social network of formation and social capital acquisition, that is,the study of the "why" problem. It mainly studies the new social networks formed in the era of mobile media as well as the value and role of new social networks for ethnic minority villagers. The second dimension is the process and principles of ethnic minority villagers' use of mobile media and social networking, solving the problem of“what this is”and exploring how mobile media operate in the construction of social networks, such as how villagers use social networks and social capital, how to mobilize social resources and the characteristic of the new social network structure;the third is the differences between the ways villagers obtain social capital under the influence of mobile media, that is the status of the villagers in the social network and the effect of interpersonal communication, which equals to the question of how the mobile media constructs the social network and affects the interpersonal communication and social capital?acquisition for monority villagers.By analyzing how villagers in Heba Village use mobile media to reconstruct their social networks, acquire and mobilize social capital, this study arrives at the following conclusions:Firstly, mobile media not only constructs social networks in virtual space, but also becomes an important media to construct the interpersonal communication and social networks in real life to some extent.Secondly, mobile media has become a tool for ethnic minority villagers to establish close relationships and obtain emotional support.Thirdly, mobile media provides support for self-identification of minorities and construction of peer groups.Fourthly, the social networks of ethnic minority villagers using the mobile media framework is a dynamic one.Fifthly, the social networks of ethnic minority villagers are characterized by inequality and heterogeneity, and mobile media can promote equalization and heterogeneous communication. The network of ethnic minority villagers' social networks possesses the function of absorption and consumption. At the same time, the region will have a restrictive effect on the construction of the network.Sixthly, the ethnic minority villagers have the relational communication based on the principles of relationship and interest exchange, moreover they have the exclusion logic and asymmetry, and the mobile media have an expanding role in relational communication.Seventhly, rural elites in ethnic rural areas have a structural position advantage, who use the social networks constructed by mobile media which are conducive to the acquisition of social capital.Eighthly, education level and economic level are important influencing factors for ethnic minority rural women's media exposure and using.Ninthly, traditional poverty causes rural minority villagers to have a low level of applying mobile media.Traditional poverty and digital poverty are causal chain for each other. To solve the poverty problem as a social problem,we need to integrate the inequality of information and communication technologies into.the social' environment and life situation of minority villagers.Based on empirical research, this paper presents the reality of using and practicing of ethnic minority villagers' mobile media, outlines the values, processes, principles, differences, and impacts of villagers' construction of social networks through media practicing, and explains the problems and prospects of social network construction of villagers in minority poverty-striken areas under the impact of communications brought about by mobile communication technologies. This study is an attempt to deepen the study of media using and social network construction in the field of communications field. It attempts to promote the further development of social network theory in the research and application of communication, and it has the positive significance and value of the oretical exploration. The construction of social networks under the influence of mobile media is a research with rich connotations.Due to subjective and objective reasons, this research inevitably has some limitations. For example, the research conclusions may be subject to the characteristics of the research objects and the social background during the promotion. The limitations brought about by this study mainly analyze the self-centered individual network without expanding to a larger social structure, and can only stand on the current time node to analyze the behavioral characteristic of villagers and the composition of social networks having emerged. This study believes that the future research can be expanded from the following three aspects:in terms of research methods,it can use more diversified ways to expand and optimize existing research methods, such as field comparisons using multiple cases(multiple ethnography). In the aspect of content,it can focus on studying the changes of the social network brought about by the flow and dispersion of rural people in ethnic minorities under the influence of the media,as well as the empowerment function of mobile media. From a theoretical perspective,we can use a variety of perspectives to explore and interpret based on the research of a specific field.
