The Study Of Urban Media On The Status Of Ethnic Minorities Reported

Mass media as urban social phenomenon, since the birth of the Urban Sociology , it has been concerned as the object of study of Sociology. On the other hand, that the relations between ethnic groups are harmonious, has been a long-term impact on national development as an important topic. There is a delicate relations that both interdependence and mutual isolation between the media as the mainstream culture and the ethnic group as a culture of the disadvantaged status. However, the research in this area has become the section blank of the interdisciplinary point. Thus, the status that the media in Nanjing where the media has been one of the most developed eastern city, concerned and reported to the ethnic group which scattered living in the city, has been incorporated into the vision of the author.This article based on the mainstream media reported to the ethnic group as a study object , take an example of "Xinhua Daily"-the Newspapers is representative in the eastern city of Nanjing, Jiangsu, collected data by field survey , and tried to really show the status that the media concerned and reported on the ethnic group, as well as the need what the ethnic groups asked for the mainstream media at present. And in this application analyzed the information by the perspective of sociology, analyzed the difference between the media reporting and the ethnic group demanded. Further analyzed the adverse effects and problems caused by the missing of the media reported on ethnic group, and the hidden social reasons behind the phenomenon: the many factors under a common role. Then, by the theory of functional analysis perspective, from the two social process that the social integration and social conflicts, this article remodeled and constructed the function that the media reported on the ethnic group. From microcosm to macrocosm, with a wide range of recycling, this article tried to reconstruct its functional model. This article holds that today's status which the media of eastern city concerned the ethnic group has not been able to meet the needs of the community groups, and the media could not play the function, so it need to reverse the situation, the media should play its proper function in the entire social structure , and should be made some contribution. In short, the author hopes that this study will contribute to China's media research, as well as ethnic groups, and provide some new ideas.
