In the modern China Northeast journalism history, due to its Japanese newspaper "monopoly" characteristics,Chinese journalists who worked for Japanese newspapers became the subject of modern Northeastern journalists.Their historical activities and influence shaped the general form and structure of modern China Northeast journalism history. At the southernmost tip of Northeast China was the Kwantung Leased Territory occupied successively by Russia and Japan.Since 1905,Japan had exclusively occupied the region for forty years(1905-1945).In these past years, the journals and newspapers controlled by the Japanese monopolized the newspaper market.Accordingly, this area became one of the very few economically developed areas without newspapers founded by Chinese people. In the Kwantung Leased Territory, the major force of Chinese journalists was in Taitung Jihpao which was run by the Japanese.Starting in 1908 and ending in 1945,Taitung Jihpao was the longest and the most influential Japanese run newspaper in China.Due to the widespread influence and the widening circle of readers, the newspaper comments and journalist narratives of Chinese journalists in Taitung Jihpao acculturated the spirit of the Chinese in Kwantung Leased Territory. Also, they helped the Japanese disseminate and construct their colonial culture. However, strictly speaking, faced with Japan?s colonial aggression, their national spirit was always maintaining. In a limited space, they used Taitung Jihpao to spread the Chinese culuture and stand on patriotic position. To a certain extent,it deconstructed the colonial discourse of Japanese run newspapers. This thesis takes the Chinese journalists in Taitung Jihpao as the research object.By discovering new historical materials, and sorting out and correcting existing historical materials,it attempts to show their overall picture by excavating their characters and lives. This thesis includes the following seven parts. The first part is an introduction, presenting the purpose and significance of this study, defining some important concepts, introducing the research status home and abroad, and explaining the division of historical stages.Chapters 1 and 2 examine the Kwantung Leased Territory newspaper industry history and the overview of Taitung Jihpao(including its journalists).Chapters 3-6 are the main content of this thesis.Specifically,Chapter 3 studies the independent spirit and patriotic standpoint when Kaneko Seshisai served as the Newspaper?s president.Chapter 4 focuses on the activities of the Chinese Communist Party and the Kuomintang in the process of transformation.Chapter 5 analyzes the structural transformation of the Chinese journalists, their professional ability and the sudden change of discourse style.Chapter 6 mainly researches on the public expression, true spiritual world and national identity of Chinese journalists in Anti-Japanese War Period.Chapter 7 as the last chapter investigates the choice and destiny of Chinese journalists in the early days of Japan's defeat and after Taitung Jihpao had been shut down.Due to the serious lack of relevant historical evidence, this thesis can only carry on the research according to the actual situation. On this basis,it tries to ensure the logical coherence and structural reasonability. It is an unavoidable defect of this thesis. The study concludes that the writing of the Chinese jounalists of Taitung Jihpao contain complex feelings. They are under pressure from the Japanese while not able to cut off the Chinese national spirit. They were no doubt a special distinctive group and their spiritual world was very complex beyond imagination. The first thing to be sure of is their vocational ability and professional spirit. The second is their tireless efforts on safeguarding Chinese compatriots? rights. The third is that they made a comprehensive record of the social, political, cultural and economic situation of the times. From these records,it can be found that there was an unusually complex mental world of the colonized. In the colonial system, there was plenty of space to move about. In general, living in Kwantung Leased Territory and serving in the newspapers controlled by the Japanese, the Chinese journalists could not get rid of some sort of sin. However, when we try to avoid the interference of political and moral judgment, and investigate the traces of life hidden in the large text written by the Chinese journalists,we are sure that they lived so vividly in the dark historical space. In Kwantung Leased Territory, cooperation with the Japanese was not entirely a matter of morality or nationalism. It had a much more complex dimension of interpretation.
