Narration And Presentation Of Crime News Reporting In Mainstream Japanese Newspapers And Periodicals

Todorov believes that narratology is the science of studying narrative works.News report belongs to the narrative works with written language as the carrier,so news report is also one of the important objects of narrative research.Because of its particularity,sensitivity and stimulation,criminal news reports have been widely concerned by the society and become an important subject of news reports.Crime news reports play an important role in warning against crime and promoting the construction of the rule of law.However,the anomie caused by excessive profit-seeking by the media is also common.How to report crime news correctly and regularly has become one of the contents discussed by the academic circles.Japan and China are both Asian countries.They are geographically similar and culturally similar.So what are the characteristics of Japanese crime news reports? From the perspective of narratology,how do criminal incidents appear in Japanese media? Why does the Japanese media present this way? These problems have aroused the author's attention.This paper chooses Asahi Shimbun and Yomiuri Shimbun,the most representative mainstream newspapers in Japan,as the research objects,to make statistics on the basic situation of criminal news reports in two newspapers during the ten years from January 1,2009 to December 31,2018,and to make a narrative discourse analysis of these reports,to investigate the crime presentation in Japanese media and its social causes,so as to provide relevant reference for our country.It is found that the number of crime news reports in both newspapers is decreasing gradually,which is in direct proportion to the decrease of crime rate in Japan.Most of the sources of criminal news reports in the two newspapers come from authoritative organizations,which mainly take the form of information,with strong objectivity and few rendering reports.From the perspective of narratology,most of the narratives are based on the neutral omniscient perspective,which is based on the fight against crime and the realization of justice.The author analyses the reasons behind the present situation of crime news reports in the two newspapers from the aspects of official discourse construction and Japanese national culture.In order to better play the positive social role of crime news reporting,Chinese media can learn from Japan's relevant experience: strengthen the authority of reporting,establish the sense of rule of law;construct equality of reporting,avoid symbolic discrimination;strengthen the guidance of reporting,clear social responsibility;weaken the presupposition of reporting,break through the original framework.
