Sino-Japanese Jia Wu war broke out in1894, which shocked the Chinese society in the late Qing Dynasty, becoming the focus of public opinion in China immediately. From increasingly tense situation before the outbreak of the Korean War in July1894to the period after the signing of the Treaty of Shimonoseki in April1895, newspaper, the mainstream media that time, paid attention to and commented on the war, thus creating a huge wave of public opinion as the themes of war. This is not only the incisive and vivid manifestation of Chinese people’s patriotism and awareness of social participation but also the opening of the "National Awakening.At the same time, as an important event in the history of the modern world, one of the important characteristics of the Jia Wu war is that both sides attach great importance to media’s influence on the war and state their position to the international community by the media to obtain the support of big powers. The media became an important tool that both sides advocated the legality and the conduct of the war.This article will study "Shen Bao","News","Zi Lin Hu Bao","Wang Guo Gong Bao","Zhi Bao" and so on that can be found Chinese newspaper at present from the beginning of January in1894to the end of December in1895, trying to draw the surging consensus’s outline of Jia Wu war and analyze the performance and function of Chinese media in this war in order to help broaden the research field of Jia Wu war.According to the chronological order, respectively introduce public opinion of China news during the time of pre-war, war and postwar period. There are also introduction and complimentary close.Introduction elucidates the background and significance of research, recalling the status and shortage of existing related research and summarizing the framework.Conclusion affirms the use of public opinion of China news in the Jia Wu war and evaluates its limitations. Specific content is as follows:The first part:State the background and significance of research, status review of domestic and foreign research, and introduce the research contents and methods.The second part:Track the situation (From January1894to July1894). First the research points out China news press pay close attention to the situation in North Korea and is determined to defend China as North Korea suzerain status; second discusses the mistakes that focus on Russia and despise Japan; third talks over the voice of active battle and the analysis of national power between China and Japan; Finally talks about the opinion on domestic westernization movement.The third part:Keep up with the pace of the war (From July1894to March1895). First describes public opinion in China of the following war, paying attention to the development in time, analyzing its positive battle attitude and patriotic sentiment; second reviews that it makes suggestions actively for the resistance against Japanese aggression; finally discusses the public opinion in China to the reflection of China’s defeat.The fourth part:Public opinion in China reflects and responses the outcome of the war (From March1895to December1895). First describes its attack to the Treaty of Shimonoseki, next discusses its support to struggle against cede territory of the people on Taiwan, third reviews its introspection to the Westernization Movement, fourth talks about China’s press positively called on political reform innovation, finally describes that it should reconsider and learn from Japan.
