XIAOSHUOLIN And The Transition Of Late Qing Fiction Magazine

In this paper, with the "transition period" in the course of development of Late Qing Fiction Magazine as the research core, and with XIAOSHUOLIN Magazine which was issued in this period as the symbol of transition, the characteristics of "transition period" was displayed. From historical perspection, the cause and effect of "transition" was investigated comprehensively, and then the evolution track of Late Qing Fiction Magazine was outlined, and the connection of the post-transition magazines to the subsequent development of novels was revealed. The paper was divided into the following parts:Introduction, state the significance of fiction magazines on the study of Chinese modern novels, summarize the development process of Late Qing Fiction Magazine, sum up the previous related research and display the characteristic of this study, point out the focus and difficulty of the research and the guiding ideology of organizing the research materials, then state the basic ideas about writing.Chapter One, according to the original time order, discuss the development process of Late Qing Fiction Magazine before XIAOSHUOLIN, investigate their respective status and change. The focus of this chapter is to explore the effect of "Novel Revolution" on the editorial idea and the contents of fiction magazines.Chapter Two, display the characteristics of XIAOSHUOLIN by comparing with the previous fiction magazines, discuss the literary opinions of the hosts of XIAOSHUOLIN, their knowledge structure and their points of view about the novel publishing status at that time, to show the key position of XIAOSHUOLIN in the "transition period".Chapter Three, investigate and analyze the publication and management status of XIAOSHUOLIN Press. Study the motive of Zengpu, etc.of founding the Press, the agency’s internal system and its actual publication and management status and characteristics, display the guiding and promoting role of XIAOSHUOLIN Press on the transition of fiction magazines.Chapter Four, study the new features of fiction magazines after "transition", mainly from the changes of three aspects, the editor, the reader and the author to illustrate. Focus on the change of editorial idea and the new features presented in the published works, especially the establishment of leading position of the new short stories in the magazine.Conclusion, summarize the motivations of the fiction magazine "transition", as well as the significance of XIAOSHUOLIN Magazine and its Press on the "transition". According to the research paradigm of this paper, divide the evolution process of Late Qing Fiction Magazine into four stages, respectively expound the features of each stage and its meaning to the development of fiction magazine.Appendix, is the collection of original materials about the publication and business situation of XIAOSHUOLIN Press, mainly in a chronological order to display visually the business history of the Press and the characteristics of its novel publication.
