Research On The Metro Public Space Design Management

With comprehensively development of the city metro construction in China,Metro station, the public space of metro, begin to get involve in the people’s daily life.As a branch system of design that servers urban construction, metro public spacedesign has dual attributes including architectural space of public transportation andunderground space. Besides, metro public space, covers the following six designaspects: architectural design, interior design, signage design, industry design,advertisment design and public art design. Due to features of multi-disciplinary andmulti-system, this dissertation introduces management theory into metro public spacedesign, results in a comprehensive inter-disciplinary research areas-the metro publicspace design management.Since the awareness of design management in China is weak, the metro publicspace have many problems such as conflicts of different design disciplinaries, stationidentity crisis, lack of relevance between metro space and urban space, etc. Thedissertation crosses the two disciplinaries of design and management, and makesstudies of cross-discipline subjects. It researchs on the history of metro developmentand the metro space of worldwide. This dissertation shall provide the solution tometro station design management during metro constraction in China, and it shallforming a set of design management methodology and theoretical research system.The structure of this dissertation is divided into three parts, it includes thedescription of concept, practical methodology and theoretical research system of themetro public space design management.The first part is about description of the concept for metro public space designmanagement. It analyzes the problems of metro construction in darlier stage and thechanges happened after the management intervene lately. Based on the analysis, thedissertation propose the concept of management for metro public space design then itsummarize the general problem of metro public space design in current Chinese city. Those problem is expected to be solved after management intervention.The second part is the methodology of metro public space design management.With introduction of the management theory system, this part researches metro publicspace design from three basic functions of management: planning, organizing andcontrolling. Those three chapters are a coherent and interactive process of designmanagement, which form the procedure and methodology of metro public spacedesign management. Furthermore, the chapter of planning function research on targetmanagement and strategy management that ensure the target achieved. Then, thechapter of organizing function researches on the mode of operation, structure oforganization and basic process. Last but not least, the chapter of controlling functiondiscusses the classification of specialized fields and relationship in between during thedesign process of metro public space, including the key points and principles of eachdesign discipline and research of design examination and assessment.The third part provokes the theoretical structure of metro public space designmanagement. Firstly, this part makes study on the internal environment (relationshipbetween people and metro space) and external environmental of (relationship betweenurban space and metro space) of metro. On account of it, the part launches theresearch of metro public space design management in ethical dimensions, includingthe analysis of the main subject, ethical responsibility and value orientation. At last,the dissertation propose the value orientation of the Chinese metro public spacedesign management, which starts with humane care and returns with the sustainabledevelopment of the city.Generally speaking, the dissertation focuses on an emerging field ofprofessional design, relates to the development of Chinese cities closely. Beginningthe research with methology of management, combining the methology of ethics, thisdissertation accomplishes the research on a metro public space design management inthe context of cross-disciplinary research.
