Objective:This study aimed to investigate whether subjective memory complaint (SMC) is associated with objective cognitive impairment, and the relationships among depression level, objective cognitive performance, the syndrome of the Liver qi stagnation in TCM and SMC.Methods:In a cross-sectional study, patients were allocated to two groups:the SMC group (n=95) and the health control group without SMC (n=19). Subjective memory complaints were assessed by Subjective Cognitive Complaints Visual Analog Scale (SCC-VAS). Objective cognitive function were examined through Mini-Mental State examination (MMSE) and Montreal Cognitive Assessment(MoCA). Depression was assessed using Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17), and the syndrome of the Liver qi stagnation in TCM were also investigated.Result1、 MMSE and MoCA scores in SMC group were lower than control group(MMSE:P=0.018, MoCA:P=0.015). HAMD scores in SMC group were higher than control group (HAMD:P=0.008). A Logistic Regression showed that lower MMSE and higher HAMD scores predicted more possibility of SMC2、 Subjective impairment of express ability, attention, reaction and calculation could be found in SMC group beyond memory. Positively correlation was existed in each other. The scores of SMC-VAS memory were negative correlated with the MMSE and MoCA scores in SMC group. The scores of SMC-VAS express ability were negative correlated with MoCA language scores. The scores of SMC-VAS memory, attention and calculation were negative correlated with MoCA name scores.A Linear Regression Analysis showed that lower MMSE scores, higher HAMD scores, first-degree relatives with diagnosis of dementia and living alone predicted worse memory self-assessment. Higher scores of the Liver qi stagnation syndromes and living alone predicted worse express ability self-assessment. Higher HAMD scores, first-degree relatives with diagnosis of dementia and living alone predicted worse attention self-assessment. Higher HAMD scores, living alone and lower MMSE scores predicted worse reaction ability self-assessment. Higher HAMD scores predicted worse calculation ability self-assessment. 3、 The scores of the Liver qi stagnation syndromes in SMC group were higher than control group. Positively correlation was existed between subtest scores of SCC-VAS and the scores of the Liver qi stagnation syndromes. The MoCA scores were negative correlated with the scores of the Liver qi stagnation syndromes.Conclusion1、 SMC is strongly associated with objective cognitive performance and depression. Lower MMSE and higher HAMD scores predicted more possibility of SMC.2、 SMC always accompany subjective impairment of other cognitive domain. Objective cognitive performance, depression, first-degree relatives with diagnosis of dementia, living alone and Liver qi stagnation syndromes may influence the self-assessment of cognitive function.3、 SMC essentially Correspond to Morbid forgetfulness in TCM. Subjective or objective cognitive impairment is associated with Liver qi stagnation syndromes. Liver qi stagnation syndromes may be the main pathogenesis of morbid forgetfulness in TCM.
