OBJECTION:To understand the changes of serum lipid levels in depression patients by testing the patients’serumlipid levels, so as to explore the relationship between ser um lipids and Yu syndromes depression, especially syndromes of liver-qi stagnation dep ression, adjust to the treatment programme by referring the lipid levels in serum, which will open up a new way of combining traditional Chinese and Western integrative the rapy in the treatment of depression.MATERIALS AND METHODS:Selected120depressive patients of outpatients and in patients conforming to Chinese Classification of Mental Disorders(CCMD-3) and the24-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-24);>20,divided into anxiety group a nd without anxiety group by the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA),meanwhile, divided into the liver-qi stagnation syndromes group and the anti-liver-qi syndromes gr oup by the syndromes of liver-qi stagnation depression rating scale;30healthy voluntee rs were recruited as normal control group, the serum lipid levels of fasting blood sam ples were tested.RESULT:1. Young and middle-aged depressed patient was more women than men; de pressed patient was often complicated by anxiety; liver-qi stagnation syndromes was m ore universal than anti-liver-qi stagnation syndromes in depression;2.Depressed patient had abnormality in serum lipid metabolism. Compared with healthy people, levels of T otal Cholesterol(TC) and Low Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol(LDL-C) descended.(P<0.05),the highest percentage abnormality was High Density Lipoprotein Cholesterol(HDL-C);3. Patient depression without anxiety had a higher degree of abnormality in serum lipid metabolism than in patient depression without anxiety;compared with patient dep ression without anxiety, levels of TC,Triglycerides (TG) and LDL-C of the patient with anxiety rised obviously(P<0.05);levels of TC of the patient depression with anxiety w ere decreased, levels of TG was higher than healthy people (P<0.05);Compared with healthy people, levels of TC and LDL-C of the patient without anxiety descended obvi ously.(P<0.05);4.levels of TC of the patient correlated with weight loss (P<0.01).levels of TG of the patient correlated with change in condition (P<0.01),so did HDL-C wit h change in condition(P<0.05), retardant and desperation and LDL-C with weight loss, block symptoms (P<0.01)and desperation, changed in condition as well(P<0.05);5.Patien t anti-liver-qi stagnation had a higher degree of abnormality in TG,LDL-C lipid metab olism than patient liver-qi stagnation, but a lower degree of HDL-C.Compared with anti-liver-qi stagnation group, levels of TC, TG and LDL-C of liver-qi stagnation group d escended while HDL-C rised, but no obvious difference(P>0.05), compared with health y people of levels of TC descended (P>0.05).CONCLUSION:People with depression had abnormality in serum lipid metabolism, a nxiety would had negative impact on serum lipid levels. Correlation of Traditional C hinese Medicine syndromes and serum lipid of the patient with depression still needs further research.
