Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum is the new variety of composite family, which only distributes in Shennongjia area in2000metres above sea level, was the rare species. Recently, research departments did some study about Dendranthema indi cum var. aromaticum with the importance of protecting and developing about the rare species, but the most are the chemical composition study, pharmacology and development study are rare, which was only reported that the leaf, flower and stem of Dendranthema was used in making sachet, treating common cold in civil. In view of the above, Dendranthema indicum var. aroma ticum deserves researching as a new plant resources. This article studied the volatile components of Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum by two approachment, comprehensively investigated its antioxidant activity by four detection methods and transformed the extractions into the tobacco flavours, assessed by tobacco technology.Method1. Studied in volatile oil which was extract from Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum by water steam distillation extraction process. Both volatile oil yield and contents of linalool and p-cymene were as the indicator.2. Static headspace technique and GC-MS were used in determining the volatile components and its relative content of bud stage, half-open stage, flower stage, fading stage and volatile oil from Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum.3. Comprehensively elevated antioxidant activity of the Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum extract ion (hexsane extraction, dichloromethane extraction, ethyl acetate extraction, butanol extraction and water extraction) by4methods. Chlorogenic acid, luteolin, Vc, BHT are the positive control.4. The extractions were assessed as the tobacco flavouring. Pyrolysis technique and animal experiments were using in elevating some extractions which showed good reduction stimulate.Result1. The optimum technology for extracting volatile oil from D. indicum var. aromat icum was soaking for3h when the dosage of water was eightfold of material mass, and then extracting for6.0h. However, in enlarged production, the extracting time for obtaining the highest yield was prolonged to6.5h. Moreover, the extracting time should be only5.0h for being used as flavor in tobacco, as the content of p-ymene and linalool, main components in violent oil of D. indicum var. aromaticum, reached the highest in that time.2. Volatile components are different by two pretreatment methods. Some original composition have been changed in the process of extracting volatile oil. The relative content of1-phelladrene which is the main component of Dendranthema indicumvar. aromaticum is decreased from the bud stage to the fading stage, but the relative content of p-cyremene increased relatively symmetrical. According to the research, this change could be acted in the growth process of Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum.3. All parts of Dendranthema extractions had high antioxidant activity except water parts. Especially, dichloromethane extraction had the strongest antioxidant activity and the lowest concentration when achieving the highest activity.4. Ethyl acetate extraction is the most suitable for cigarette in all extractions. Pyrolysis experiment confirmed that subjective description reflected in the pyrolysis components. The causing damage of lung is smaller by sample cigarettes than by reference cigarettes in animal experiments.Conclusion1. The extraction process of volatile oil from Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum could be selected with different needs, not with single indicator.2. The bio-trasformation process from1-phelladrene to p-cymene provided a theoretical basis for rational utilizing Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum.3. Dendranthema indicum var. aromaticum have strong antioxidant activity.4. The aroma of blank cigarette is promoted with adding ethyl acetate extraction, and the stimulatiom is reduced. The ethyl acetate extraction have the high stability as tobacco flavour. Pyrolysis experiment confirmed that subjective description reflected in the pyrolysis components.
