On The Controversy About Scientific Property Of TCM In The Logic Of Science’s Perspective

The thesis studies the controversy about scientific property of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM) from the perspective of scientific logic. In other words, to discuss a series of issues related to the argument in the view of philosophy of science and logic. The thesis attempts to analyze the essence, origin, contents and development of the controversy about scientific property of TCM by means of historical investigation, theory analysis and literature method. The basic propositions and conclusions of both sides would be shown through the basic idea of representatives about the opponents of TCM and the supporters of TCM. The paper discusses the rationality and irrationality of both sides’ main standpoints and conclusions meanwhile a series of problems about the debate from the perspective of scientific logic. Putting forward the specification and spirit of science for which the scientific debate should be followed. The thesis consists of six parts.Chapter 1 is to make a brief analysis of the background, significance, present situation, methods, structure and content of the thesis. It includes problem presentation, concept definition, literature review, significance, methods, content and structure, innovation, etc.Chapter 2 is mainly about the controversy about scientific property of TCM to become for a unique scenery line in the history of scientific culture of modern China. It’s expounding the basic situation of the controversy about scientific property of TCM through the analysis of huge amounts of data. It explains the history of the controversy about scientific property of TCM from the origin, the politicalization and socialization of the debate. To show the overall situation and logic process about the debate systematically.Chapter 3 is introducing the main standpoints of negative faction of TCM. This part is exploring some opinions and propositions come from Yu Yunxiu, Fang Zhouzi and Zhang Gongyao who are regarded as three leading figures of negative faction as follows. First of all, Yu Yunxiu advocates “TCM is a non-scientific ‘feudal medical’”. Secondly, Fang Zhouzi deems “TCM is not medicine, ‘Abandoning theoretical system, testing medicines’ is needed”. Once more, Zhang Gongyao claims “Farewell to unscientific Traditional Chinese Medicine and Remedies”.Chapter 4 is introducing the main standpoints of positive faction of TCM. This part is exploring some opinions and propositions come from Yun Tieqiao, Yang Yuhui and Mao Jialing who are regarded as three leading figures of positive faction as follows. First of all, Yun Tieqiao advocates “TCM is different from the sainted Western science, but its own foothold”. Secondly, Yang Yuhui claims “TCM is a Science of the human body with a series of unique and complete system”. Once more, Mao Jialing deems “TCM is an unique Oriental science”.Chapter 5 is analyzing the rationality and irrationality of the viewpoints on opposing sides of the argument about scientific property of TCM objectively with the theory and methods of scientific logic. It includes four parts:(1) the rationality of the negative faction of TCM;(2) the irrationality of the negative faction of TCM;(3) the rationality of the positive faction of TCM;(4) the irrationality of the positive faction of TCM.Chapter 6 is reflecting the debate about the scientific property of TCM with the theory and methods of scientific logic. The thesis combs the issues of debate itself and reflects the related issues in the debate, puts forward the correct methods, specification and spirit of science for which the scientific debate should be followed. Reveals academic debate should be held in the academic category. It includes: the tendency and issues of the debate about the scientific property of TCM; specification and spirit of science that scientific debate should be followed and reflecting the debate of the scientific property of TCM from the dimension of science, technology and culture.
