Effective network management is the guarantee of regular network operations. With the expansion of the size of network, the increase of the complexity of network architecture and the extensive usage of the isomerous networks, the network management becomes more and more difficult, furthermore its development obviously trailed the development of network. Nowadays, there are many problems in network management such as management efficiency lower, quite difficult to manage the large scale networks, time comsuming and arduous in manual configuration of network and so on. It has become a research hot spot to realize distributed network management and self-management and improve management efficiency and decrease the workload.Because of the restraint of some factors, such as lacunae of network, threaten to network security, network management protocol, network management architecture and approaches, the network management system is difficult to meet the requirements of rapid network development presently. After analyzing the deficiencies of existing network management system in detail, the dissertation proposed a distributed intelligent management model, which is based on the active network. The model, which combines features of active network technique, traditional network management technique and intelligent diagnosis and reasoning technique, can remedy deficiencies of the traditional network and has features of regional autonomy and regional cooperation in distributed circumstance. It is good at managing mass networks and heterogeneous networks.The main contributions and some innovations of the dissertation are as follows.1. According to the characteristics of the active network, an active network communication model based on security authentication is proposed, which is mainly aimed at the security problems in an active network platform. In this model, the active packets can only be executed on the reliable active nodes under the premise of the correct transmission, which can ensure the authenticity, confidentiality and integrality of the active packets.2. To meet the requirements of the network management, an active network management architecture based on component is proposed, which can improve the efficiency of the network management, adapt the characteristics of distributed processing, and guarantee safety to use the components.3. In order to take full advantage of active nodes and provide more flexible, reliable and safe network management, a Management Control Message Protocol is designed for authorization, management and control (MCMP) .4. An malfunction diagnosis model based on Evidence Theory is proposed, which can enhance the diagnosis capability of network malfunction and reduce the false alarm and miss alarm effectively in network malfunction diagnosis.
