An investigation on engine electronic control unit rapid prototyping platform, UECU, which covers most functions of all kinds of electronic control engine, is described in this paper. In this system, most of general engine electronic control functions of software or hardware are provided. A great improvement in researching ECU is realized, it makes the research mode raised from "start at elements" to "start at platform".The platform contains hardware, base software, calibration system, and measure&control system. Based on MPC56x of automotive 32-bit PowerPC series, made by Freescale Semiconductor Inc., the hardware of UECU obtains: high-power ignition driver, high-voltage quick-response electromagnetic valve, memory module, collect module, diagnose module and communication module. A real time embedded operation system core, DuduOSEK, is produced, with BSFU(Base Software For UECU) and DSFU(Diagnose Software For UECU). The calibration system is adapted to communication protocols: J1939, CCP(CAN Calibration Protocol), KWP2000(Key Word Protocol 2000), JKUCAN and JKUSCI, based on CAN or serial communication. It is also complemented by an interface software, Foreground, and a communication module, CRU. Besides, when special software packages are loaded, a measure and control system, MCS, can be built, which is used in hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) and real time measurement on board.In application of UECU, this platform is used in a 6106 high-pressure common rail diesel engine, equipped with ECD-U2, and a DDC2000 8-cylinder unit pump diesel engine, made by MTU inc. Classical control model and mean value control model are used in this paper. Basic calibrations on power performance are done on the two engines.
