With the development of Operation Support System (OSS), therequirement of data sharing and interoperability between differentnetwork management systems or network management system and otherOSSs became more and more exigent. The traditional managementinformation models which were on the core position of networkmanagement systems couldn't satisfy the requirement. Firstly, thenetwork management systems based on these models were not scalable.Secondly, the models couldn't assure the data consistency of differentnetwork management systems. Thirdly, the standard interface modelswere difficult to be accepted by all vendors. Fourthly, the networkmanagement systems based on these models couldn't configure servicesend to end.In order to solve these problems, this dissertation synthesized theresearch of shared management information model and the research ofontology in network management information modeling. Also thedissertation analyzed the problems about the modeling method, modeland application of ontology-based shared management information. Andthen, the solution set for ontology-based shared management informationmodeling was given. The main contents and contributions can besummarized as the following:1) The analysis of modeling process of shared managementinformation. The meaning of shared management information model wasanalyzed. Then the modeling requirement and modeling objects from theviewpoints of technology-specific network management,multi-technology network management and integration servicemanagement were discussed. At last, the modeling process was dividedinto different phases with the methodology of UTRAD, and the missionsof different phases were given. 2) The ontology-based modeling method of shared managementinformation. With the analysis of the functional requirement of sharedmanagement information model, the modeling steps were given as follow:to structure framework of shared management information with themulti-dimensionality architecture; to structure the class inherit tree; tomine the relationships between classes; to check the consistency; tomodify and expand the model.3) The OWL-NM-based description language and template. Twoproblems when OWL applied to the modeling of network managementinformation were pointed out: the loose binding of class and property, theabsence of restriction to Datatype property. The dissertation improved theOWL to OWL-NM, which was the OWL for network management. Thenthe OWL-NM-based templates about class, property, property group andrelation were given.4) The ontology-based generic shared management informationmodel. Using the ontology-based modeling method of sharedmanagement information, the dissertation divided the shared managementinformation, and structured the inherit tree of class ManagedElement. Then the relations between the subclasses of ManagedElement weremined. The detail information about the relationship of the subclasses ofPhysicalME was described with the form. Al last, the class Equipment, itsproperties and the relationship were described with the templates basedon OWL-NM.5) The application mechanism of shared management informationmodel. The existent method for ontology mapping to Relational Databasehad some problems. So a novel method using metadata for ontologymapping to Relational Database was given. The metadatas were classifiedand the metadata adaptation functions were defined. Then the SMD-basedshared management information storage and access process was given. Atlast, the prototype system validated the SMD-based storage and accessprocess.
