Great changes have taken place in Grid Technology field. Currently the focus has been changing form e-Science and e-Engineering to e-Business and e-Government based on Web Service Technology. The scope of grid users also expands from scientists, engineers to governor employees, business clients, financial users, and even common network users.VEGA Personal Grid (VEGA PG) is a sub-project of VEGA grid project of ICT. It's a vertical grid, which includes multiple layers from network communication layer to application layer. Improving the Interactive-ability, Participate-ability and Share-ability is the main aim of research on VEGA PG. Collaborative work and resource sharing based on desktop system are main functions for VEGA PG.While the mainstream Grid system is still closely depending on HPC environment, great achievements have been gained in P2P field, which only relates to desktop PC at the edge of the Internet. Comparing with traditional grid system, which is task-centric or service-centric, the VEGA PG is a user-centric mode grid. The user-oriented grid application would be a primary part of grid applications in the future and this is another reason for us research on VEGAPG.In the desktop application field, computing task and service is not mainstream application, while resource-sharing and Person-to-Person communication is the common requirement. Resource sharing and cooperative work is the main capability VEGA PG provides for applications.The key problem of VEGA PG is named e-Person problem, which includes three aspects: 1) Scalability; 2) Personality; 3) Multi-mode.The main contributions of reseach on VEGA PG are listed as following.1) For the scalability of VEGA PG, this project provides and implements a two-dimension hybrid-P2P model. The features of such model are that it uses simplifying routing mechanism and separates the communication channel into a data channel and a message channel to impove the scalablility of the whole system. This model is adaptable for Internet environment and Intranet environment.2) For the personality problem, this project provides and implements an application design mode based on markup language. Comparing with other documentation-based application, markup language-based application can be a presentation tool for markup language and the markup language can reconfigure, rebuild and even change the function of application.
