Research On Key Issues Of File Management In Grid

This paper studies the problems in Grid file management. Grid users and applications often require file resources that exist in multiple locations and under the administration of multiple organizations. Grid file management attempts to address the combining of these file resources to fulfill the needs of these users and applications.The first issue that infects file management in Grid is the fabrication of"Grid File", which is an abstraction of file resources in Grid. Studying from thought of computer architecture, an EVP dynamic file address space model is presented in Grid, which maps distributed heterogeneous physical file space to one logical unified effective file space. In the effective file space, the item of Grid File is defined. As a result, how to construct a Grid File is a prime problem.The second issue about file management is the interaction between users and Grid Files. Since Grid is an open society of people and computers, there are several smaller issues in interaction including Grid File naming, accessing control, interfaces and the ways of interaction. Grid File is required to not only have unified file name space, single operation interfaces and unified access control, but also to conform to 3A (Any place, Any time and on Any device) man-computer interactions. 3A interaction means Grid File can be used on smart devices as well as computers.The third issue is about the full life cycle of Grid File management. Current computer benchmarks focus on evaluating single performance of systems; however, they don't reflect the total performance that users get in Grid. The Grid evaluation method should pay more attentions to development, deployment and amendment cost as well as system performance.Based research on above issues, a prototype of Vega Hotfile is implemented in this paper, which plays an important part in the project of Vega Grid.
