The development of computer technology has been leading human society into the knowledge economy time as the representative of information technology. Knowledge has become one of the most important production factors and knowledge innovation is the lasting power to the development of human society. For the manufacturing of China, especially for the vast small and medium manufacturing enterprises (SMME), which are very important significance and effect to the economy development of China, the ability of product innovation and development is a very important field for improving the level of their science and technology. Product is the lifeline of enterprise and product development is the impetus of enterprise evolution. For contemporary manufacturing enterprise, a product development activity not only is a creative and intellective work, but also is a social and concurrent work. Now the development of complex-shaped mechanical products is always a team cooperative effort in which groups of several enterprises or departments from many disciplines and different locations work together. In recent years, with the development of information technology, a worldwide information platform for sharing all kinds of messages has been established, it is possible that inter-enterprises develop product cooperatively. On the basis of all the above analysis, informatization cooperative product development (ICPD) is presented in this paper. The object of research ICPD is to elaborate the respective advantage through the intercommunion and co-operation between enterprises, advance the ability of product development, enhance core competence, and accelerate enterprise development.According to analyzing for the actuality of SMME and the influence of information technology over the methods of product development, in this paper, an architecture of ICPD system and the building methods of inter-enterprise cooperative alliance are put forward, the integrating methods of network platform, the modeling methods of product information model, principles for development process modeling, principles for task distributing and scheduling, and the modeling methods of organization and the cooperative mechanism of team work are researched. On the basis of all the above theories, the cooperative design process management system of pump is developed. The main characteristics and creative ideas of this paper are as follows:This research work is supported by the National Nature Science Funding, P. R. China under Grants No. 59975063(1) Based on analyzing the importance of enterprise informatization to building the modern enterprise institution and enhancing enterprise core competence, aiming at the actuality of SMME, the architecture of ICPD system is built. The operational principle of ICPD is discussed. A new idea of implementing cooperative product development through the inter-enterprise cooperative alliance is presented, the multi-view implementation model of cooperative alliance enterprise is described, and the structure elements of every view and the relation of them are discussed.(2) An integrated environment reference model of distributed system is represented. The integrated model of ICPD system is built that is based on the Web and CORBA technology. The security management mechanism based on the CORBA security service is discussed. Legacy systems of SMME are integrated into ICPD system by adopting the CORBA technology and the concrete integration method is described.(3) According to the requirements of ICPD system to product model under network, a partition and global product Model (PGPM) to support ICPD is presented by adopting the Object-Oriented and characteristic representation method, the feature definition, the architectural structure, and the data structure of PGPM are discussed stressfully.
