Under the guidance of system theory, cybernetics and information theory, utilizing the principles of dialectical materialism and historical materialism, combiii the theoretical research in our studies, market survey and scientific management system with quantitative analyses, and citing a vast amount of accurate statistical data, this dissertation systematically studies and discusses the e-documents from the angles of multi-disciplines and multi-levels. Besides, it reasonably quotes authoritative works and absorbs lots of new thoughts and new methods from modern philosophy, communication, management science and value science, to make a systematic exposition of my viewpoints.Firstly, on the basis of the studies of e-documents?component parts, basic structure, basic attributes, functions and characteristics, this dissertation systematically discusses the social dynamic reasons and signs of e-documents?emergence and development, the relationship between e-documents and knowledge growth and the theoretical basis of documents evolutionism, etc., and preliminarily approaches to e-documents?production patterns, products?structure, transmission factors and technology-applying environment.Secondly, this dissertation studies the theoretical transmission patterns and the practical service state of e-documents and their relations with libraries. Besides, it discusses, for the first time, e-documents?consume mechanism and consume patterns, and several legal issues in the utilization of e-documents from the value science angle and with the aid of the law of price in the market.Thirdly, this dissertation reveals in depth the relationship among e-documents, electronic publishing, network publishing and their software and hardware from the angles of social history and cultural development.Finally, it scientifically compares and assesses libraries?homepages, search engines and various retrieval patterns, and systematically proves the influences of edocuments upon the society, especially upon the information profession, libraries and their work.This dissertation attaches importance to the use of figures and tables. It scientifically, objectively and vividly reveals the component parts, production structure, transmission mechanism of e-documents studies, and the retrieval and consume means of e-documents with statistical data and scientific structure models.There are altogether more than 200,000 Chinese characters, 418 references, 45 figures and 17 tables.
