On Theory And Developing Model Of Digital Library

In order to improve the efficiency of processing, organizing, manipulating and transmitting large amount of information resources, theories and technologies on Digital Library has been developed and then became the aim and direction of traditional library. Theories and technologies on Digital Library bring many challenges on traditional libraries as well as many good opportunities. How to rise to these challenges, how to make full use of modem information technology to implement Digital Library and how to win in the competition are all research topics to traditional libraries.This dissertation includes: (1) The formation, evolution and development of concepts of digital library. (2) Basic descriptions on resource, content, model and function of service, architecture and principles of digital library. (3) Theoretical and technical problems in the development of digital library. (4) Interoperability of digital library. (5) Information organization and description of digital library. (6) Retrieval technology and type, principle, structure and function of digital library. (7) Metadata processing (8) Developing model of digital library research. (9) Reformation and innovation of traditional library.Digital library is an interdisciplinary course. Different organization (library, publisher, resource provider, Internet, customer) take on different task. The model of service and content of digital library varies according to types and users. The clue of this dissertation is essence, main elements and direction of development of digital library. How to apply theory and technology of digital library to modern library, andhow to transfer the modem library to digital librny are also discussed.
