How to provide the precise, comprehensive and fresh information by using the exploding Internet resources is one of most urgent problems in current information retrieval research. The main difficulty in designing the Internet information retrieval system lies in its distributed architecture and enormous dimension. This problem is more obvious in two research areas. 1 Some bottleneck problems in the web page search engine. Now no a search engine can cover more than 60 per web pages on the Internet. The update interval of most system is almost one month.2 Interoperability problems among heterogeneous information resources. Web page is only one kind of information resource on Internet. There are still may other resources such as FTP, Video and many special databases, but there was no a practical solution to integrate these resources and provide combining search service. We begin our research from a basic problem, interoperability problem in digital library research. To give a practical and efficient solution, we proposed a standard protocol, Information Retrieval Protocol for Digital Library. Based on the former research, we proposed a new theory, Domain resource integration system (DRIS), which gives a promising method to realize the definition of digital library, information management system for the next generation of Internet. DRIS will integrate different kinds of information resources on Internet and build a basic Internet information retrieval infrastructure. Based on the basic frame of DRIS, we also design a new web pages search engine, which is better than the second generation of search engine like Google in some key characters. Moreover, this basic frame could also be applied to integrate computing resource, software resources, etc. Based on the search service of DRIS, we also design a personal information service system, MyLibrary@HUST.
