Objective:In this study, clinical epidemiology, clinical research methodology and statistics analysis are used to conduct the randomized controlled clinical study, in order to observe clinical efficacy of patients with cervical spondylopathy and neck pain treating with electro-acupuncture therapy and acupuncture treatment alone and the improved situation shown in NPQ neck pain scale and MG-Gill pain scale, to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the treatment and provide the new methods and ideas for the treatment of cervical spondylopathy and neck pain.Method:Select 70 cases of patients with cervical spondylopathy and neck pain which met the inclusion criteria from out-patient treatment clinic of Huixin TCM from April 2009 to October 2009. Distribute the cases to the test group (EA therapy) and the control group (acupuncture) group on the proportion of 1:1 at random, with 35 cases in each group. One course of treatment consists of 10 times, observation of a course of treatment is required. Evaluate with NPQ neck pain scale and MG-Gill pain scale and assess the safety at the same time.Establish a database with EPIDATA3.1 software and do the statistical analysis with SPSS16.0 software. Measurement data is expressed with mean±standard deviation (χ±S). The count data is expressed with composition ratio (%). Measurement data groups comparison are analyzed with t test (variance arrhythmia with t'test or rank sum test), comparison between before and after is analyzed with paired t test or with Wilcoxon paired rank sum test. Category data groups comparison are analyzed withχ2. Level data comparison is analyzed with Wilcoxon rank sum test.Results:(1) 70 qualified case were included in this study, all of which were outpatients, with 29 males and 41 females who were aged between 33 and 55 years. Disease duration was 1 month-72 months. Test group included 35 patients, with 16 males and 19 females, whose average age was 38.29±10.72 years and average disease duration was 28.33±7.23 months; the control group included 35 patients, with 13 males and 22 females, whose average age was 36.96±11.21 years and the average disease duration was 27.24±7.54 months. In the comparability analysis of baseline characteristics of patients between the two groups, gender, age, disease duration, NPQ neck pain scale, MG-Gill Pain scale were not statistically significant (P>0.05), which shows the baseline data between the two groups were comparable.(2) Clinical efficacy:Among 35 cases of the test group,14 cases were cured,10 cases were obviously effective,8 cases were effective and 3 cases were ineffective, the total effective rate was 91.4%; Among 35 cases of control group,13 cases were cured,7 cases were markedly effective,5 cases were effective and 10 case were ineffective, the total effective rate was 71.4%. Compare the total effective rate of both groups, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05).(3) After treatment, NPQ neck pain scale scores were significantly lower than that before treatment (P<0.05, P<0.05), compare the difference between groups before and after treatment,we found that the treatment group was better than the control group (P<0.05).(4) After treatment, MG-Gill Pain scale scores were significantly lower than that before treatment (P<0.01, P<0.01), compare the difference between groups before and after treatment, we found that the treatment group was better than the control group (P<0.05).(5) Safety Testing:There were no significant changes in the tests of blood, urine, stool, liver and kidney function, ECG in both groups before and after the treatment.Conclusion:1. Both of the electro-acupuncture therapy and acupuncture alone can significantly improve the total effective rate of treating patients with cervical spondylopathy and neck pain, electro-acupuncture was better than acupuncture alone.2. Both of electro-acupuncture therapy and acupuncture alone can significantly reduce the scores of NPQ neck pain scale and MG-Gill Pain scale score, electro-acupuncture was better than acupuncture.3. There were no obvious side effects in both of electro-acupuncture therapy and acupuncture treating cervical spondylopathy and neck pain.In summary, the electro-acupuncture on cervical neck pain is safe, effective, no side effect, is worthy of clinical use.
