| Influenza is a common frequent acute respiratory tract infectious disease caused by Influenzal Virus(IV) which rages in some places even around the world. There were five big rages worldwide in the 20th century that destroyed seriously. In the recent years, bird-flu occur at times which have been isolated high morbific bird-flu virus so called as H5N1 . Hence there are latent risk that human beings get bird-flu for cases reported once and the continuous variation of antigen of IV. IV can trigger several severe complications and worsen the primary diseases especially around the aged, infant, the ones with chronic diseases and the grafters. So flu is an infectious disease that threatens human beings.There is great advance in the anti-virus study in medicine and vaccine in the field of western medicine. However, for the continuous variation of antigen of bird-flu , the limitations and the side effect of the anti-virus medicine and vaccine in some degree, the perfect method to prevent and cure flu has not come out yet. The research for controlling flu has a long way to go.Flu belongs to"epidemic cold"in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM)theory, one of exogenous febrile diseases. So far the doctors of TCM have accumμlated rich experiences in prevention and curing for eternal febrile diseases by different ways with advantages.With the guard of Pro.Jiang, the research group get rich knowledge and clinical experiences. Based on the fruits of the past and the great deal of reviews, we hold that"exogenous cold and seasonal epidemic poison with internal stagnant toxic heat is the main cause of flu in the northern region; the general pathological mechanism is eternal cold with internal heat and stagnant toxic heat. So the therapeutical principle is"expelling cold and clearing away heat, replenishing qi and dispelling toxin. The formμla is YQQWJDHJ (YIQIQINGWENJIEDUHEJI) composed of frying Ma Huang (Ephedra Herb),raw Shi Gao (Gypsum),Chai hu(Chinese Thorowax Root),Huang Qin(Baical Skμllcap Root),Ying Hua (Honeysuckle, raw Huang Qi (Mongolian Milkcetch Root) etc. The study aimed at appraising the curative effect of YQQWJDHJ via clinical observation and experimental research of its separated parts.Clinical research : 123 cases were researched by prospective random control tow-blind method with ribavirin as control medicine. Resμlts: the total effective percentage of YQQWJDHJ group is 91.67% while of the control group 20.00%. The total effective percentage of syndrome of YQQWJDHJ group is 90.00% while of the control group 23.33%. There was significant difference between the two group (p<0.01)that shows the curative effect of YQQWJDHJ is much superior to ribavirin. To research the effect of defervescence, The improvement of integration of syndromes of TCM, the manifestation of tongue and the pμlse, the blood cell and TNF-αof two groups, we have the resμlts as follows: (1)ALL the changing rate of temperature in different time of the treatment group were higher than those of the control one. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01).The percentage of having normal temperature of the treatment group was 83.33% and 95.00% on the first day and second day after treatment, while there were 53.33% and 76.67% of the control group. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01). The percentage of having normal temperature of the two groups were each 98.33% and 86.67% on the third day after treatment. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.05).Compare with the changing curved line of temperature ,the two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.05) under the globe test. This explained the effect of defervescence of YQQWJDHJ was superior to ribavirin. (2)Compare with the reduction of integration of syndromes of TCM, the treatment group was superior to the contrast one. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01). And the reduction of integration of syndromes of TCM after treatment was superior to that before treatment. There were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01). Compare with the improvement rate of integration of syndromes of TCM, the YQQWJDHJ group was superior to ribavirin. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01). (3)The manifestation of tongue of the patients was mainly characterized by reddish tongue or reddish tip and margin of tongue. There were 43 cases(71.67%) in the treatment group, while there were 45 cases (75.00%)in the control one, secondly dark reddish tongue, thirdly pale tongue , pale dark tongue or dark tongue. The manifestation of tongue fur of the patients was mainly characterized by yellow fur and thin yellow fur. There were 54 cases(90.00%) in the treatment group, while there were 55 cases (91.67%)in the control group. The next one was by thin white fur or white fur. The manifestation of pμlse was mainly characterized by floating rapid pμlse, floating pμlse or rapid pμlse. There were 60 cases(100%)in the treatment group, while there were 57 cases (95.00%)in the control one. Secondly by slippery pμlse. After treatment,the manifestation of tongue was mainly not reddish fur. There were 41 cases(68.33%)in the treatment group, while there were 17 cases(28.33%)in the control group. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01). After treatment, There were 32 cases(53.33%)in the treatment group, while there were 44 cases(73.33%)in the control group that the furs were yellow. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.05). After treatment, the manifestation of pμlse was mainly not floating. There were 56 cases(93.33%)in the treatment group, while there were 44 cases(73.33%)in the contrast group. The two groups were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01). YQQWJDHJ can obviously improve the manifestation of tongue and pμlse of the flu patients of eternal cold with internal heat ,and it was superior to ribavirin.(4)Comparing with the percentage of LC in the treatment group, it was higher after treatment(P<0.01).On the other hand ,although the absolute value of LC had the trend of rise,there were no significant statistic difference (P>0.05) after treatment . In the control group, both the percentage and absolute value of LC were risen after treatment. Compare with those before treatment, there were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01), but both the percentage and absolute value of LC in two groups were in the range of reference. YQQWJDHJ maybe improve the nonspecific immune response to restrain IV.(5)Comparing with the TNF-αaround treating by YQQWJDHJ, there were more significant statistic difference (P<0.01), and it was obviously cut down after treatment. TCM herbs maybe not restrain or kill IV directly, but regμlar the immune function wholly by interfering cytokines so as to lessen and restore the immune inflammatory lesions.Experimental research: to study mechanism of the 4 parts of forming of YQQWJDHJ by observing the action of them on the cytokines and the pathology of lung tissue of the model rats infected by IV. Resμlts:(1)The model group :the inflammatory cytokines in the serum such as TNF-α,IL-6, IL-1 increased extremely 3days after infecting. The expression of IFN-γincreased highly 5days after infecting. And the expression of IL-6 were still higher than normal on 5th and 7th day (p<0.01),meanwhile the lung tissue showed the lesion of viral pneumonia severest in 3rd day after infecting. (2)The group of clearing away heat and poison: the content of TNF-αand of IL-6 was lower than of model group. The expression of IFN-γwas higher that of model group 1st,3rd 7th day after infecting. The expression of IL-10 was higher that of model group 1st, 7th day after infecting. The herbs of clearing away heat and poison coμld restrain the expression of TNF-αand IL-6 while accelerating the expression of IFN-γ,IL-10. Meanwhile the lung tissue showed much slighter lesion of viral pneumonia than of the model group. So the herbs of clearing away heat and poison maybe lighten the lesion of the IV-infested rat lung by restraining the expression of TNF-αand IL-6 and by accelerating the expression of IFN-γ,IL-10. (3)The group of replenishing Qi: there was no effect on TNF-αor IFN-γ, while the expression of IL-1 was higher that of model group 1st day after infecting. the expression of IL-6 was lower than of model group 3rd day after infecting. the expression of IL-10 was lower than of model group 1st ,3rd ,5th day after infecting ,was higher to the summit than of model group 7th day after infecting,and was higher than the expression of the normal group of IFN-γ. The lesion of the lung was severer on 1st day after infecting, maybe due to increased IL-1 and decreased IL-10. The lesion of the lung was slighter on 3rd ,7th day than on 1st day after infecting, maybe due to decreased IL-6 and increased IL-10. (4)The Group of relieving superficies with acrid-cold herbs: there was no effect on TNF-αor IFN-γ, while the expression of IL-1 and IL-6 was increased 1st day after infecting. The expression of IL-10 was restrained 3rd day after infecting. The lesion of the lung was severer on 1st and 3rd day after infecting, maybe due to increased IL-1 and IL-6 and decreased IL-10. The lesion of the lung was lightened on 5th and 7th day maybe due to the controlled expression of IL-1 and IL-6 and TNF-α. (5)The Group of relieving superficies with acrid-warm herbs: there was no effect on TNF-α,IFN-γor IL-10. The expression of IL-6 was increased 5th day after infecting. The expression of IL-1 was increased 3rd day after infecting. The lesion of the lung was much severer especially on 3rd and 5th day after infecting, maybe due to increased IL-1 and IL-6 which were higher than of other groups. The lesion of the lung was a little lightened on 5th and 7th day maybe due to the controlled expression of IL-1 (p<0.01).Conclusions: YQQWJDHJ has outstanding curative effect especially on coming down of temperature, relieving the syndrome and improving the tongue and pμlse demonstration. In the apart groups, the herbs of clearing away heat and poison maybe restore the lesion due to IV 3rd day after infecting by decreasing the expression of TNF-αand IL-6 and by accelerating the expression of IL-10.The group of replenishing Qi maybe restore the lesion due to IV by decreasing the expression of IL-6 and by accelerating the expression of IL-10. The Group of relieving superficies with acrid-cold herbs maybe restore the early lesion due to IV by increasing the expression of IL-1 and IL-6 1st day after infecting and by decreasing the expression of IL-10 3rd day after infecting. The Group of relieving superficies with acrid-warm herbs maybe restore the lesion on acute phase due to IV 3rd and 5th day after infecting by accelerating the expression of IL-1 and IL-6.So TCM herbs have the best curative effect under the guard of treatment based on the syndrome differentiation.
