Inheritance And Decline On The Spirit Of Da Gong

Ta Kung Pao (1916-1925) was managed by Wang Zhilong, and existed in the period of Northern warlords. At Ying Lianzhi time (1902-1916), the newspaper had not only achieved a dominant position in northern China, but also formed a highly precious spiritual tradition as’Da Gong’ spirit. It won world glorification from the year of1926-1945(XinJi time). However, between the two periods, Ta Kung Pao (1916-1925)(Wang time) had a dim and dishonorable appearance. Previous researches revealed a rupture of’Da Gong’ spirit. This dissertation investigated Wang Zhilong identify first, then regarding the ’Anfu Culb’ as dividing line, divided Wang time into three stages. After that, probing the editorials of the three stages from two aspects of quantify statistics and contend analysis, trying to show the state of’Da Gong’ spirit, and explore its causes.On quantify statistics level, for the topic content, the three stages all attached importance to politic events, particular domestic politics. However, they also appeared divergences. The first stage was focused on’international diplomacy’, the second stage strengthened ’social and livelihood’, the third highlighted ’military issue’. Towards the stance tendency, the main presence was criticism, but the differences were the criticism objects.On contend analysis level, Ta Kung Pao (1916-1925) firmly grasped domestic and foreign events, such as’political struggle’,’north-south issue’,’abolish Dujun and reducing army’,’Pairs Peace Conference’, and the relationship with other countries. But each stage had its own emphases.Through the two levels, the author found that’Da Gong’ spirit emerged alteration in Wang time. In the first stage, Ta Kung Pao could continue this spirit properly, however, under actions of variety factors,’Da Gong’ spirit began to attenuate first slowly then expeditiously. On the one hand, in Wang time, Ta Kung Pao could not extricate itself from politics relationship. On the other hand, it didn’t have independent economics. Besides, the poverty of professional journalists and newspaper ideas, were all led to the conversion of’Da Gong’ spirit.To sum up, Wang time was not separated from Ying and XinJi time. It inherited ’Da Gong’ spirit a certain extend from Ying time, and it also accommodated history admonition to XinJi time.’Da Gong’ spirit, founded in Ying time, continued and declined in Wang time, opened up and developed in XinJi time.
