Research On Artifact-Centric Business Process Compliance

Modern enterprises always have a large number of business processes. As the precious corporate assets, they embody enterprise value chain, define business processing, and safeguard efficiency. Business process has to protect company’s interests as well as conforming to laws and regulation, the breach of which will cause significant loss to the entity. Therefore, business process compliance assurance is an important and integral part of business process management.At the same time, business process management is shifting from control-centric to data-centric. Artifact-centric business process management is one of the representative data-centric approaches. It is quite obvious a meaningful challenge to study it.On the basis of domestic and international studies, the thesis is dealing with issues around compliance assurance in artifact-centric business process management, in terms of business process design, operation, and diagnosis.1) A business process model generation method satisfying Artifact lifecycle constraint is proposed. Compliance management starts from constructing a compliant business process model, which can be achieved by the import means of converting compliance rules to the model directly. Artifact life cycle, which describes the procedure of how artifact properties are assigned and changed, is adopted as compliance rules. And the work is based on the conceptual business process model ArtiFlow. Business process compliance definition and a compliance checking algorithm are proposed, as well as a method of converting artifact lifecycle constraints into an ArtiFlow model.2) Compliance issues during process operation are studied. Detecting the compliance during runtime is a complementary for compliance checking during design time. Compliance detecting is based on the runtime information logged in the business information system. The key point of the detecting method is to transfer the problem into the acceptance problem for language. According theorem is proposed and proved.3) A conformance checking method focusing on artifact life cycle is developed, which is mainly used as backward compliance checking, ensuring compliance in process diagnosis. It is asserted that it is equally important to check behavioral changes as well as data assignment variances. The checking tool provides snapshots of deviation points as well quantitative measures.4) Based on the technology of Web service, compliance ensure modules are designed and built for Artifact business process management, including compliant Artiflow generation module, compliance checking module, compliance monitoring sub-module and conformance checking module.
