The image of city is the internal and external public perception of the reality city, the overall impression and comprehensive evaluation, which is an important part of urban resources output. It effects on development of city as well as region. The communication of image of the city is based on orientation, while the orientation based on place. When the sense of place as measures of real emotion and the concept of contact between the city and the public, it will become a breakthrough point of the city image communication of research work.Shantou is China’s forth Special Economic Zone. However, recently, the economy faces the stern challenge, no matter which ranking in Guangdong or the eastern region of Guangdong always dropped to the rear. In view of this situation, city management through the development of new characteristic industry, play a regional center and the hometown of the original advantages, which is committed to the development of Shantou pulled up to a higher position.By taking Shantou city image communication based on sense of place as the research object, using of communication studies, journalism, human geography theory, through literature study and questionnaire survey, studying on Shantou’s image, and pointing out the real problems. Then, in order to help future planning and development of Shantou, the paper points out the problems in Shantou’s image spreading and proposes solution to the problem from the strategic and tactical levels.
