Objectives To investigate the level of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Symptom (PTSDS) of Intensive Care Unit nurses in three level of first-class comprehensive hospital of Jinan, and to explore the relationship between PTSDS and traumatic events, simpie coping style, life events, job burnout and other demographic factors, in order to improve physical and psychological health of Intensive Care Unit nurses.Methods185Intensive Care Unit nurses of tertiary level of first-class comprehensive hospitals in Jinan were administered questionnaires by cluster sampling method, and the response rate was91.89%. Six instruments included general information questionnaire, ICU nurses Traumatic Events Scale, the Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Checklist-Civilian Version (PCL-C), the Simplified Coping Style Questionnaire (SCSQ), the Life Event Scale (LES) and Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI). All data obtained were statistically analyzed by software package SPSS17.0for windows. Statistical methods such as descriptive analysis, T test, completely randomized design analysis of variance (ANO VA), correlation analysis and multiple liner stepwise regression were used to assess the questionnaire.Results1. ICU traumatic events the total incidence of the average score was (1.10±0.49), and the level of spiritual impact on nurse was (2.05±0.53).2. The positive rate of the ICU nurses PTSD symptoms was21.8%, the PCL-C score was18-55points, the mean score was (30.39±8.76) points, the three kinds of symptom score were: Re-experiencing the trauma (9.08±4.08) points, Avoidance behaviors (11.55±4.29) points and Hyper-arousal behaviors (9.77±3.46) points.3. The levels of the ICU nurses’ PTSD were significant differences between the differen working age groups, the difference was statistically significant (F=8.198,P<0.01). A further two two comparison discoveries, work less than1years of nurses and work3-5years of nurses PTSD scored significantly higher than the other group of nurses (P<0.01).4. The PCL-C total score and each dimension were analyzed respectively in12ICU traumatic events and the total score, showed significant positive correlation.5. Coping style with the level of PTSD and their all dimensions showed a significant negative correlation(r=0.135-0.242, P<0.05); life events with the level of PTSD and their all dimensions showed a significant positive correlation(r=0.135-0.242, P<0.05); the total of occupation burnout and various dimensions (In addition to personal accomplishment), all with the level of PTSD and their all dimensions showed a significant positive correlation(r=0.243-0.378, P<0.05).6. Multiple linear stepwise regression of ICU nurse PTSD symptoms analysis showed, coping style、work experience%the emotional exhaustion and depersonalization4variables entered the regression equation, all explanatory variables36.5%.Conclusion1. ICU nurse PTSD positive rate was21.8%, ICU nurse PTSD should be paid more attention to.2. ICU traumatic event is the direct cause of ICU medical workers PTSD, one of the necessary conditions for PTSD diagnosis. The influences of ICU nurses in psychiatric top five are: patient condition changes suddenly died、rescued the accidental heart cerebrovascular disease patient、rescued the pregnant woman/child trauma patient、 rescued severe compound injury (such as a large number of bleeding or dismembered) patients. 3. Years of work have significant effects on the ICU nurses PTSD level, work less than1years of nurses and work3-5years of nurses PTSD scored significantly higher than the others.4. Positive coping style, reducing negative life events, reduce the occupation burnout of nurses in ICU can reduce the incidence of PTSD, promote physical and mental health of nurses in ICU, to meet the security requirements of ICU care of critically ill patients.
