Objective To investigate the level of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder(PTSD) of emergency nurses in the third class of general hospital of Changsha,and to explore the factors which influence PTSD,such as traumatic event,coping style and other demographic factors,in order to provide theoretical basis and practical instruction for prevent PTSD and improve mental health of emergency nurses.Methods 210 emergency nurses of the third class of general hospital in Changsha were surveyed by cluster sampling method,and 193 effective records were obtained(response rate:92%).Demographic Information Sheet, Emergency Nurse Traumatic Events Questionnaire,Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Self-Rating Scale(PTSD-SS)drawn up by Liu Xian-chen,Trait Coping Style Questionnaire(TCSQ)drawn up by Jiang Qian-jin were used in this survey. Descriptive analysis,independent-samples T Test,completely randomized design analysis of variance,Spearman correlation analysis and multiple linear stepwise regression were performed by the Statistical Package for Social Science(SPSS)11.0.Results 1.The score of PTSD-SS≥50 was primarily screened as positive PTSD,38 out of the 193 objects were detected to be positive PTSD,and the positive rate was 19.7%.2.All emergency nurses experienced one or more traumatic events in their past work.The most serious types of stressful events were:dealing with special patients,stimulus of death,workplace violence.3.The mean of total score of positive coping style(PC)for objects was 29.46±4.46,and the mean of total score of negative coping style(NC)was 27.49±5.45.4.There were statistically significant differences of level of PTSD in different groups divided by age,academic background,income,health status and length of emergency service(p<0.05).5.Spearman correlation analysis showed that there were positive correlations between PTSD,traumatic events and negative coping style(P<0.01), and a negative correlation between PTSD and positive coping style(P<0.01).6.The main influencial factors of PTSD in emergency nurses were traumatic events(b′=0.361),negative coping style(b′=0.251),positive coping style(b′=-0.212),health status(b′=0.138)and length of emergency service(b′=0.103).Conclusion 1.It was higher that the level of PTSD of emergency nurses in the third class of general hospital of Changsha,and the influencial factors were traumatic events,negative coping style,positive coping style,health status and length of emergency service.2.Traumatic event was the direct reason resulting in PTSD.The most serious types of stressful events during emergency work were:dealing with special patients,stimulus of death,workplace violence.3.Positive coping style can prevent PTSD and relieve symptoms,however, negative coping style has an opposite effect.
