Objectives:To construct training model for graduate majoring in wound, ostomy and continence nursing based on the role of Enterostomal Therapists. Thus to provide references to cultivate Enterostomal Therapist at graduate level and enlarge the population to promote the development of wound, ostomy, continence nursing, as well as to set an example for the education of nursing graduates pursuing master degree in other specialties.Methods:Literature investigation and Delphi technique were used. First, the primary questionairs were developed by the research group after extensive literature review on wound, ostomy, and contienence nursing and nursing graduate education. Several modifications were made in the preliminary inquiry. Secondly, purposively selected panel of China-based Healthcare related experts comprising Enterostomal Therapists, nursing educators, nursing administrators and wound, ostomy, continence pertinent surgeon were invited to participate in a two-round Delphi study. Experts were asked to enrich and validate the training model by assessing the importance or appropriateness of each item. Data were collected from July2012to November2012and analysed using SPSS17.0and Excel2007. Item with agreement rate above50%and totally agreement rate above0.20was included in the first round and consensus was reached when every single item meet all the three criteria, that was, average mean above3.5, totally agreement above0.20and variation coefficient less than0.25 in the second round.Results:1.25experts were selected.22experts participated in the first round and19completed two rounds. The response rate were over85%and the mean of authorities was above0.85in both rounds and the Kendall’s W was0.250in the first round and0.329in the second round and both represented significant difference (P<0.001)2. The specialty was modified from ostomy nursing to wound, ostomy and continence nursing to better reflect the practice domain of Enterostomal Therapist.3. The training model comprising training goals, admission requirements, schooling system and credit system, curriculum, nursing practice, evaluation index system and certification methods, along with96items.Conclusions:The experts were representative, active, authoratative and consensus was reached thus the results were reliable.The training model could be interpreted as a list of7components and96items. This model was Enterostomal Therapist-based and especially appropriate for cultivating nursing graduate majoring in wound, ostomy and continence nursing and pursuing master of nursing specialist and It can be adopted by colleges and set an example for Clinical Nursing Specialist education in other nursing field as well. However, it should be dynamically modified according to the social needs, educaion condition of colleges, development of nursing science and Enterostomal Therapists’ role.
