ObjectiveNurse is a special kind of work people, because of the heavy work, long-lasting work time and the conflict between work and family, the quality of their work life is lower than the general work people. The study is designed to evaluate the QWL of nurses by investigation scale about the QWL, analyzing the current quality of work life of nurses and the effect of demographic characteristics, work environment factors on the quality of work life. Through this study we try to find several factors which have a great impact on the QWL and provide theory evidences for developing some health protection measure for nurses and increasing their QWL.MethodsFive hospitals were selected by cluster random sampling method in Zhengzhou city of the Henan province, and 461 nurses worked in the clinical and technology departments were randomly selected. The nurses are ranged from 15 to 55 years old, and their marriage and education are different too. After assessing the QWL and investigating their demographic characteristics, job characteristics and work environment factors through questionnaire survey, analysis of variance and t test were adopted to compare the significant difference of nurses statistically, then analyze demographic characteristics by using multiple regression analysis to job characteristics and work environment factors on the effect of occupational quality life.Results1 Male nurses'scores are significantly lower than female nurses'in QWL and its satisfaction, pride, competence, initiative, but physical health composite scores of the male nurses were higher than the female nurses.2 Along with the increase of age, competence and initiative gradually increase, but the group's ages whose scores are the highest in QWL and mental health, satisfaction, sense of balance are between 36 and 55, the second are of less than 25, the lowest are from 26 to 36 years old.3 With the reduction of month income, competence is also decreasing.4 The nurses who work in the other clinic departments, women and children department and surgical departments have lower scores in mental health and satisfaction, pride, competence, sense of the balance and the quality of work life, the highest is Internal medicine department.5 The nurses who do not work at night have higher scores of the QWL than the nurses that work at night, the more days on night duty, the lower scores of the QWL.6 The nurses who worked more than sixteen years have the highest scores of the QWL, lowest between six and fifteen years.7 The more regular nurses'diet, the higher scores of the QWL they have8 Five work environment factors, including management practice, work reward, leadership, job suitability and work collaborative, are positively related to the QWL of the nurses.ConclusionThe nurses who have different demographic characteristics or Work Life factors got different scores of QWL and dimensionalities. Work environment factors, including management practice, work reward, leadership, job suitability and work collaborative, were positively related to QWL and its dimensionalities.
