Urticaria is a common allergic skin disease, its major clinical manifestation is itchy, red welts on the surface of the skin, which break out and extinct fast, have no fixed place, and leave without track. Chronic urticaria refers to urticaria that persists for 3 months or more. Some of the more severe chronic cases have lasted more than 20 years, and it s hard to cure which low-down the level of patients'quality of life seriously. The second generation Antihistamines is the first choice to treat with chronic urticaria which can be relieve symptoms quickly and permanently at present. It blocks the cells with the H1 histamine receptor antagonist binding to histamine which induced inflammation, and inhibits the accumulation of eosinophils and the migration and chemotaxis of eosinophils which is induced by the allergen, which reduce the itching and the welts. But the chronic urticaria is so easy to relapse after discontinuation. It is necessary to look for other adjuvant treatment, and the Traditional Chinese Medicine has a good effect to treat allergic diseases.ObjectiveTherefor, we propose to treat chronic urticaria with a self-blood acupoint injection therapy combined with loratadine, to analyse the rates, physical Quality of Life Index, and recurrence rates.Methods60 Patients with urticaria were collected consecutively from the acupuncture Clinic and skin clinic in the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou University of TCM, which were randomly divided into two groups of 30 cases. In control group, patients received loratadine tablets, at a dose of 10mg daily. In treatment group, patients received both loratadine tablets whom dose were the same as the control group, and a self-blood acupoint injection therapy, which injected 4ml patient-own peripheral Blood into Feishu, Geshu, Qu pool and seas of blood points alternately,2 times per week. The patients of two groups were all included in a 4-weeks study with a follow-up three monthes after the end of treatment to estimate therapeutic effect, the exponential-change of physical Quality of Life Index, and the recurrence rate.ResultsIn the treatment group, the cases of cure were 13, the cases of result significance were 13, the cases of effective were 3, and the cases of noneffctive was 1, the total curative effect of the treatment group was 90.0%, and 1 case had relapsed and the recurrence rate was 7.6%. In the control group, the cases of cure were 5, the cases of result significance were 16, the cases of effective were 6, and the cases of noneffctive were 2, the total curative effect of the control group was 83.33%, and 3 cases had relapsed and the recurrence rate was 60%. The pretherapy-component of physical Quality of Life Index in the treatment group was 12.80±5.11, the post-treatment-component was 1.67±0.77 and the value of difference wasll.13±3.82. In the control group, the pretherapy-component of physical Quality of Life Index was 11.93±5.73, the post-treatment component was 2.57±0.95 and the value of difference was 9.36±2.76. It showed a significant effect after therapy between two groups, especially in treatment group. The recurrence rate in treatment group was significantly lower than in the control group.ConclusionResearch have shown that the treatment of chronic urticaria is effective by self-blood acupoint injection therapy combined with loratadine tablets. There is no statistical significantly compared the treatment group with control groups, which means the effect of two groups are equivalent. The treatment group has more effective to relieve the patients'pruritus, improve the quality of patients'life, and also effectively reduce the recurrence rate, which demonstrate that self-blood acupoint injection therapy can improve the clinical symptoms and life quality of chronic urticaria patients, and decrease the recurrence rate. However, the mechanism of self-blood acupoint injection therapy is not completely clear.
