| Against the background of the global pandemic of the covid-19,major changes in the balance of international economic power, the ebb of economic globalization, and the slowdown in international market demand, the growth of China’s traditional trade has been impacted. As a new business model of international trade,cross-border e-commerce is also an intrinsic part of digital trade. It has been continuously improved and standardized in the rapid development, and has gradually become a powerful starting point for the highquality development of China’s foreign trade. Therefore,it is of great practical importance to study the direction and route of the development level of cross-border e-commerce affecting China’s export trade.Firstly, basing on domestic and foreign literature, this paper determines the research breakthroughs of crossborder e-commerce,export trade and the relationship between them, and analyzes the mechanism of crossborder e-commerce to boost export trade in theory. Then,a cross-border e-commerce level measurement system is built after selecting 16 indicators from 4 levels.Using Principal Component Analysis and Cluster Analysis, this paper calculates and analyzes scores of the cross-border e-commerce development level of sample countries.Afterwards, this paper uses the panel data of 50 sample countries from 2010 to 2020 to establish a fixed effect model to examine the influences of cross-border e-commerce on China’s export trade.Based on the transaction cost theory, this paper tests the mechanism of cross-border e-commerce on China’s export trade, and carries out Heterogeneity Analysis from perspectives of the national development level and the geographical distance. Finally,Anker Innovations,a top cross-border e-commerce company in my country,is selected as a case study. The research results show that: First, the development level of the cross-border e-commerce among sample countries is relatively uneven.Developed countries have obvious competitive advantages, but developing countries grow faster in the cross-border e-commerce.Second,the development of cross-border ecommerce can significantly boost China’s export trade and has an inclusive effect. In addition,it can significantly decline the negative influences of geographical distance on export trade.Third, transaction costs can significantly affect the performance of cross-border e-commerce in boosting China’s export trade. When a country’s cross-border e-commerce improves, its transaction costs will decrease, leading to an increase in its export trade volume. Finally, combining the theory, evidence and case analysis, suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of government and enterprises to leverage digital technology, strengthen the construction of the entire industrial chain, and innovate trade models, and make future prospects. |
