Under the macro background of rapid social and economic development, rapid urbanization and industrialization have deconstructed the superstable form of agriculture in the past.China’s agricultural development has also emerged new bottlenecks, mainly focusing on the orderly construction of agricultural land circulation market and the multi-dimensional dilemma of improving agricultural production efficiency. In view of the current dilemma of agricultural development,it is necessary to make a more comprehensive discussion on the efficiency and impact of the current agricultural land circulation market, and the farmland rent as a barometer of the land circulation market should deserve attention. Therefore, the impact of farmland rent on agricultural production efficiency has become the core narrative of this study, which is of strategic significance for optimizing the establishment of farmland market, promoting agricultural production efficiency and realizing rural revitalization. In this study, the influence and mechanism of farmland rent on agricultural production efficiency are discussed from the perspective of logical deduction such as land rent theory, farmer behavior theory, and traditional agricultural transformation theory. Then, based on the data of China over the years,a comparative analysis was made from the aspects of historical evolution, regional differences, circulation objects, and crop types planted in China.Secondly, using the data of the2015 China Household Finance Survey(CHFS2015),OLS regression, mediation effect, quantile regression and other methods were used to explore the specific impact and mechanism of farmland rent on agricultural productivity, and the robustness of the results was verified by substitution variables and substitution models. Then, based on regional differences, motivation for transfer, crop type, rent, and lease period, four different types of farmer groups were discussed. Finally, based on theoretical analysis and empirical research results, corresponding policy suggestions are put forward for building an orderly farmland circulation market and improving agricultural production efficiency. The results of the study showed that:(1)Farmland rents have a promoting effect on agricultural production efficiency, and this effect may be brought about through the mediating effect of agricultural investment bias.(2)The mediating effect based on agricultural investment bias will differ between short-term investment bias and long-term investment bias in the production cycle.(3)The impact of farmland rent on agricultural productivity in two different dimensions is also different, the effect of farmland rent on land productivity is first decreased and then increased with the growth of quantile, and the impact on labor productivity is first increased and then decreased with the increase of quantile.(4)Different regions, the motivation for planting crops and transfer, human rent, and lease term will lead to differences in the impact of farmland rent on agricultural productivity.Based on the above research conclusions, and in the context of the current difficulties faced by China’s agricultural development, three suggestions are put forward to realize the orderly circulation of farmland and improve agricultural production efficiency based on China’s basic national conditions:(1)improve the orderly circulation market of farmland and promote the market-oriented farmland rent pattern;(2)Balance the actual contradiction between non-food and profit, and avoid "one-size-fits-all" policies;(3)Implement the institutional guarantee for the orderly urbanization of the rural population, and break the "differential pattern" trading system in the circulation of agricultural land.
