At present,the global industrial structure is undergoing the significant changes,and the boundaries between manufacturing and service industries are becoming more and more blurred.The service of manufacturing industry is becoming more and more obvious.The proportion of productive services and the proportion of service industry in China are less than 50%,and there is a huge gap compared with the structure of industries of the ratio of “two 70%” in advanced nations in the world,which means the development of the service industry in China needs to be further strengthened.According to Made in China 2025,the servitization of manufacturing industry can effectively contribute to the improvement of manufacturing efficiency and the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing business.Therefore,this study investigates the intrinsic influence mechanism of the servitization of manufacturing business.on the international competitiveness of manufacturing industry from both theoretical and empirical perspectives,with a view to suggesting countermeasures for government.On the theoretical side,building on existing international trade analyses,this paper examines manufacturing servicisation,provides an in-depth analysis of the role of service supply expansion in improving the international competitiveness of manufacturing,and provides a sound theoretical basis for an empirical analysis of the impact of manufacturing servicisation on the comparative advantage in manufacturingIn terms of empirical evidence,first,this paper,through the comprehensive analysis of WIOD,WIOD-SEAs,World Development Indicators,World Economic Freedom Index,and China Industrial Economic Statistical Yearbook,has acquired balanced panel data of 56 industries from 43 countries and regions worldwide from2000 to 2014,which provides important support for further research.Second,building on existing studies,we measure international competitiveness of manufacturing in each country in terms of value added in trade and identify the servitization of manufacturing from the perspective of the full consumption coefficient method.Finally,based on the construction of variables,this paper establishes a model to empirically analyze the relationship between the level of servitization of manufacturing and its international competitiveness and the transmission mechanism.After an in-depth study,this paper finds that:(1)the servitization of manufacturing can greatly improve a country’s international competitiveness,among which the impact of manufacturing based on forward linkage is more prominent.(2)The impact of this is heterogeneous.First of all,distinguishing the country of origin of input factors,both onshore and offshore of service can significantly enhance the comparative advantage in manufacturing;However,the impact of domestic service is greater,which to a certain extent indicates that the core of enhancing international competitiveness is to improve the technology level and form a unique competitive advantage.Secondly,from the viewpoint of different service factor industries,the increase of service factor content in five major industries including wholesale,retail,storage and shipment,telecommunications,and finance and insurance contribute more to the competitive advantage of manufacturing.Finally,from the viewpoint of manufacturing factor endowment,compared with labor-intensive industries,the improvement of the service level of the manufacturing industry is playing the more important role on a national competitive competence of capital and technology-intensive manufacturing industries.(3)Finally,the servitization of the manufacturing industry will contribute to improving the competitive advantage of manufacturing according to technical complexity of exported products,the quality of exported products,and technological innovation.Based on the findings of this paper,we believe that in order to improve the core competitive advantage of a country’s manufacturing industry,firstly,we should improve the put of a coin of factor of the service factors with high human capital and high technology intensity such as telecommunication services,finance and insurance,etc.,and give full play to the role of servitization of manufacturing industry in effectively enhancing the international competitive advantage of manufacturing industry.Meanwhile,to implement differentiated promotion policies for manufacturing industries with different factor endowments.Finally,increase investment in R&D,promote technological innovation,and improve product quality and technological development.
