The issue of “agriculture,rural areas and farmers” is related to the national economy and the people’s livelihood,and is the basis for realizing rural revitalization and building a new socialist countryside.Innovating agricultural production technology and reducing agricultural production costs provide new ideas for solving the problems of agriculture,rural areas and farmers,and are also effective ways to rapidly improve the level of agricultural development.China supports agricultural science and technology research and development from various aspects such as policy,capital,law,and talent training.In 2023,the No.1 Central Document continued to emphasize the need to promote the construction of technical systems in the agricultural field,accelerate the development of varieties,strengthen the construction of technical personnel,and build a technological innovation platform to provide technical support for the construction of modern agriculture.However,relevant research shows that the conversion rate of scientific and technological achievements in China is still at a low level,and the adoption rate of new technologies in agricultural production needs to be further improved.As a traditional tobacco area in Henan Province,Xuchang City has a strong tobacco planting foundation,and the development of family farms and service-oriented tobacco farmer cooperatives in recent years has provided the possibility for small farmers with low technical level and lack of labor to learn and adopt advanced production technologies,but the adoption of key tobacco production technologies is not optimistic.Under the huge contrast between theory and practice,what factors affect farmers’ technology adoption behavior? What are the paths to promote farmers’ technology adoption? It has become a key topic of academic attention,and this study attempts to answer the above questions.Based on the micro-survey data of Xuchang tobacco area,this paper analyzes the current situation of Xuchang tobacco production and the adoption of key production technologies of tobacco leaves by farmers of different scales.The ordered probit model was used to empirically analyze the factors influencing farmers’ adoption of key tobacco production technologies.The fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis method(fs QCA)was used to study the combination of pathways for farmers to reach the level of high technology adoption.The study found that the overall level of farmers’ technology adoption is low.Moderate-scale farmers tend to adopt more tobacco production technologies than small-scale farmers,and are more willing to adopt technology-intensive technologies.Small-scale farmers are more inclined to adopt labor-intensive technologies.Business scale,cultural level,technical training,neighborhood technology exchanges,land endowment,technical cost affordability,and organization level had a significant positive impact on farmers’ technology adoption behavior,and age had a significant negative impact on farmers’ technology adoption behavior.The high-tech adoption path of large-scale farmers shows strong commonality,they have a high level of education,can afford the increased cost of adopting technology,can recognize the role of agricultural organizations,and will actively seek technical training,and then continue to try to adopt new agricultural production technologies The horizontal path of high-tech adoption by small-scale farmers has certain differences,the general education level is low,and the burden of the cost of adopting technology is low,but the technical exchange of neighbors and the guidance of cooperatives promote the adoption of technology and its technology.Finally,the corresponding countermeasures and suggestions are put forward from the perspectives of promoting scale operation,giving full play to the role of cooperative organizations,strengthening education and training,and strengthening subsidies.
