With the increasing importance of intellectual property protection in the world, how to improve the competitiveness of a country’s export products through intellectual property protection has increasingly become a hot issue in international trade research. At the same time, information service trade,as a highly knowledge-intensive and valueadded industry, has also received more and more attention in recent years.Due to its highly knowledge-intensive characteristics, intellectual property protection has a greater impact on it than traditional goods trade.First of all, this paper combs the relevant literature on intellectual property protection and information service trade competitiveness; Then it analyzes the current situation of intellectual property protection and information service trade competitiveness of countries in the world; Then, this paper analyzes how intellectual property protection can influence information service trade competitiveness theoretically, finding out that the impact is multifaceted, which is different for countries with different economic development levels and different industry scales, and can be affected through innovation investment and technology spillovers. On this basis, based on the transnational panel data of 132 countries from 2006 to 2019,this paper uses the expanded diamond model to analyze the impact of intellectual property protection on the competitiveness of information services trade, and then uses the intermediary effect model to verify its impact path. The study found that,on the whole, the impact of the improvement of intellectual property protection level on the competitiveness of information service trade will present a nonlinear effect of first promotion and then inhibition. In terms of the degree of development, the positive promotion effect is greater for developed countries, and the critical point is higher; From the perspective of industry scale, those countries with large export scale of information services shows the simillar result to the total sample. However, for countries with small export scale of information services, the improvement of the competitiveness of information services trade will be inhibited becauese of the improvement of intellectual property protection. Then, based on the intermediary effect test,it is verified that innovation and technology spillover play a part of intermediary effect. Finally, based on the previous content, this paper puts forward some policy recommendations on how to make better use of intellectual property protection to enhance the competitiveness of information services trade.
